HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990 06-21 CC MINBook 72/Page 102 06/21/90 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA JUNE 21, 1990 The special meeting of the City Council of the City of National City was called to order at 10:05 a.m. by Mayor Waters. ROLL CALL Council members present: Inzunza, Pruitt, Van Deventer, Waters. Absent: Dalla Administrative officials present: Eiser, McCabe, Peoples, Post. ANNEXATIONS/REORGANIZATIONS 1. SUBJECT: Discussion of Transfer of Land with the City of Chula Vista. TESTIMONY: Mayor Waters read into the record a letter from Chula Vista Mayor Greg Cox requesting the meeting, dated 6-11-90. (Copy on file in the Office of the City Clerk). The Mayor then introduced the National City Staff who were in attendance and then requested that Mayor Cox introduce his Staff and make their presentation. Mayor Cox introduced Leonard Moore, a Chula Vista Council member and Ken Lee, the Assistant Planning Director for Chula Vista. Mayor Cox distributed several handouts. (Copies on file in the Office of the City Clerk). He then presented the Chula Vista Proposal "in an effort to create logical, identifiable boundaries and to provide efficient services within those areas." A general discussion on the subject followed. Ron Temko, a representative of property owner Peter Aardema, handed out an Assessors Map and Site Plan of Mr. Aardema's property (one of the properties proposed for annexation) and spoke in favor of the Chula Vista Proposal. A general discussion ensued. Vice Mayor Van Deventer left the meeting at 11:08 a.m. Mayor Cox proposed the removal of the Aardema parcel and the mid -point of the Flood Channel from Chula Vista with National City removing the Bay Corridor and Salt Flats from theirs. He also suggested the establishment of a National City sub- committee to work with the Chula Vista officials on the boundary adjustments. Peter Aardema, property owner of one of the properties proposed for annexation (.95 acres), spoke in favor of the Chula Vista proposal. A general discussion followed. ACTION: Motion by Inzunza, to have a sub -committee to specifically look jnto Aardema's site and to negotiate amongst ourselves and see what we can do about that and trade for the bigger. southern. bay. whatever that's called. Seconded by Pruitt, but with no trade. just look into. Maker agreed with the second. Carried by the following vote, to -wit: Ayes: Inzunza, Pruitt, Waters. Nays: None. Absent: Dalla, Van Deventer. Book 72/Page 103 06/21/90 ADJOURNMENT Motion by Inzunza, seconded by Pruitt, the meeting be adjourned to 7:00 p.m. June 26, 1990 - Council Chambers. Carried by unanimous vote.
