HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990 07-18 CC MINBook 72/Page 115 07/18/90 MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA JULY 18, 1990 The special meeting of the City Council of the City of National City was called to order at 9:23 a.m. by Mayor Waters. ROLL CALL Council members present: Inzunza, Pruitt, Van Deventer, Waters. Absent: Della Administrative officials present: Bolint, Deese, Eiser, Knee, McCabe, Myers, Peoples, Peterson, Post, Williams. Roll call of the CDC by Executive Director Peterson was the same as stated above. Councilman Dalla arrived at 9:25 a.m. POLICE FACILITY/PROPOSED 1. SUBJECT: Workshop on proposed Police Facility. TESTIMONY: A presentation was made by Councilman Pruitt. Copy of his handout is on file in the Office of the City Clerk. A general discussion on the subject followed. Councilman Della proposed the prior presentation of locating the Police Facility across the street from the Civic Center. A general discussion ensued. Councilman Inzunza proposed the acquisition and remodeling of Watterson College as a back-up to the other two proposals. A general discussion followed. Warren Nielsen, 1788 Kimberly Drive, Chula Vista, made a presentation on his proposal to add on to the current Civic Center. Copy on file in the Office of the City Clerk. ACTION: Motion by Van Deventer, seconded by Pruitt, to give the three locations (proposed by Council) to Staff to review. Carried by the following vote, to -wit: Ayes: Della, Pruitt, Van Deventer, Waters. Nays: Inzunza. PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATION Mildred Bundy, 903 M Avenue, National City, spoke regarding the Police Department being back to square one and inquired as to why Council doesn't get together and decide on a location. Everett Dickson, 2745 E. 14th Street, National City, stated he felt Mr. Nielsens' proposal should be considered. City Manager McCabe requested direction from Council on whether (1) Staff should provide estimates, (2) Staff do a lot of the work and engage expert professional assistance to give necessary input or (3) an informal contract be made with a firm to do the work for Staff and bring it back to Council with their opinions. He suggested No. 2 or 3 and answered Council's questions. ACTION: Motion by Van Deventer, seconded by Waters, to leave it to Staff to use Professionals as needed. Maker and second agreed to amend to include Staff to give report at City Council Meetings every 2 weeks for discussion. Carried by unanimous vote. Book 72/Page 116 07/18/90 ADJOURNMENT Motion by Van Deventer, seconded by Pruitt, the meeting be adjourned to 4:00 p.m. July 19. 1990 - Discussion of Evaluation Process and Procedures - Large Conference Room. Carried by unanimous vote. Motion for adjournment of the CDC was also unanimous. Next Regular City Council Meeting - Tuesday, July 24, 1990 - 7:00 p.m. - Council Chambers, Civic Center.
