ROLL CALL Councilmembers present: Beauchamp, Inzunza, Morrison, Waters. Councilmembers absent: None. Administrative officials present: Dalla, Desrochers, Eiser, McCabe, Morse, Myers, Post. CALTRANS - Joint -Use Facility Plan. The purpose of the meeting was to make the City Council aware of changes that are being considered from the previous conceptual proposal for a rail facility in National City and provide an update on the new proposed site. The former Pacific Steel site is not available due to complications. The new location will be on property owned by BNSF and will be a joint use facility approximately eight acres in size. The benefits of the project were reviewed and include improved grade crossings and track and signal systems in addition to train service at the National City Depot. By the beginning of 2002, it is anticipated that sufficient information will be available to determine if the project is a go for CALTRANS. If so, CALTRANS would Book 83/Page 265 10/16/01 expect some physical activity on site in the first quarter of 2002. The proponents emphasized that they want the project to be a good fit with the community. The City Council and staff then posed questions about the proposed service, schedule, number of trains, landscaping, appearance and safety standards, and expressed concerns about the facility becoming a storage yard. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned to the Next Regular City Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting closed at 3:19 p.m. The foregoing minutes were approved at the Regular Meeting of November 6, 2001.
