HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962 06-12 CC ADJ MIN435 National City, California, June 12, 1962 The adjourned meeting of June 12, 1962, and the adjourned executive meeting, was called to order by Mayor Gautereaux at 4:15 p.m. o'clock. Council members present: Allen, Colburn, Hart, Morgan, Gautereaux... Council members absent: None. ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICIALS present: Alston, Carstens, Kerr, Osburn. MAYOR GAUTEREAUX stated a report from the executive session held by the City Council a few minutes ago, the Council approved the appoint- ment to the position of City Manager, Charles J. Hess, 2721 Cowley:Way, San Diego 10, California. Mr. Hess was contacted after the executive session and asked if he was willing to accept the appointment at a salary decided by the Council of $13,200, and he said he fell he could accept the position and would like to have a further interview with the Mayor and any members of the Council and the Acting City Manager. MAYOR GAUTEREAUX stated another matter handled at the executive session was the final seating of the City .Attorney; Mr. Carstens was appointed. by the majority of the Council as our permanent City Attorney, MAYOR GAUTEREAUX stated on the confirming of the two appointments made at theexecutive session, and carrying through with the proper form and procedure he asked motions be made in the accepting of these two appoint- ments. Moved by Allen, the Mayor's recommendation of confirming the appointment of Mr. Hess for City Manager and Mr. Carstens as City Attor- ney, be approved. MAYOR GAUTEREAUX stated he would prefer there be two separate motions on the two appointments. VICE MAYOR ALLEN rescinded his motion. Moved by Allen, seconded by Colburn, the Mayor's recommen- dation that Charles J. Hess be appointed City Manager of the City of National City, be approved. Carried, by the following vote to -wit: Ayes: Allen, Colburn, Gautereaux. Nays: Hart, Morgan. Moved by Alien, seconded by Colburn, William Carstens be permanently appointed, upon the recommendation of the Mayor, to the position of City Attorney of the City of National City. Carried, by the following vote to -wit: Ayes: Alien, Colburn, Gautereaux. Nays: Hart, Morgan. VICE MAYOR ALLEN stated he would like to know when Mr. Hess would be available. MAYOR GAUTEREAUX stated he is immediately available, and the appointment will take affect immediately. Moved by Morgan, seconded by Hart, the meeting be closed. Carried by unanimous vote.
