National City, California, October 2, 1951.
Regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by
Mayor Maurice Carrigan at 7:30 P.M. o'clock. Councilmen
present: Clarke, Curry,,Hart,-•Carrigan.- Councilmen absent:
Ingalls.
Moved by Curry, seconded by Hart, that the reading of the
minutes of the regular meeting of September 25, 1951 be dis-
pensed with. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICIALS present Alston, Campbell, Seifert,
Grey, Bailey, Gautereaux.
MRS. DOROTHY JENSEN read a letter which stated it has been
customary in the past for the Council to receive an itemized
report from the Park Canteen. Last year the net profit to
National City from the Canteen was $1,241.27, this year the
amount of $335.97 was turned over to the City from the Canteen,
which covers a longer period of time than last year. Mrs.
Jensen said the City definitely did -not benefit by the change
.in personnel. The same kind of -accounting should be asked for

this year's business as has always -been given in the past. Mrs.
Jensen said as a taxpayer she requests the Council to ask for
all records of purchases to find out whether there was an error.
MAYOR CARRIGAN requested the communication be turned over to
the City Manger for checking and offer a report to -the Council
at a later date.
ATTORNEY CAMPBELL stated that through an error the ordinance of
intention to vacete and close a portion of a street, designated
as E. 4th Street should have been E. 2nd Street. It will be
necessary to have a first reading closing a portion of E. 2nd
Street.

close a portion of E. Second Street, was presented for the
first reading. Moved by Clarke, seconded by Hart, that only

ANNUAL REPORT of the City Clerk to the Stato Controllor was
presented. Moved by Clarke, seconded by Hart, that the roport
be accepted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
COMMUNICATION FROM L. B. BACON, PRESIDENT FIREMAN'S ASSN. and
A. G. HOKENSON, PRESIDENT POLICE ASSN., was road, requesting
an increase and adjustment in salaries of all members of the
two departments in kooping with other cities in this area.
MAYOR C.ARRIGAN requested this be hold over until the 3aployeos'
Association meet with the Council and the Civil Service
Commission.
