HomeMy WebLinkAbout1949 11-03 CC ADJ MIN129 National City, California, November 3, 1949 Adjourned meeting of November 1, 1949, of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Gilbert E.,Fritz at 11:00 A.M. o'clock. Councilmen present: Matthews, Thatcher, Fritz. Councilmen absent: Adams, Curry. ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICIALS present: Alston, Dickson, Finnerty. RESOLUTION NO. 5091 was read, authorizing the payment of $524.86 to the Sports Jubilee Committee. Moved by Thatcher, seconded by Matthews, that the Resolution be adopted. Car- ried, by the following vote to -wit: Ayes: Matthews, Thatcher, Fritz. Nays: None. ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER DICKSON stated that both he and Super- intendent of Streets Finnerty had checked the bide on the motor grader and that with the exception of one, all the bids met the required specifications. The bid of Brown Bevis Equipment Company for oneGalion Motor Grader Model #116 was the lowest bid, $10,605.00, but that is the only company who bid on the grader that is not located in San Diego, their place of business being in Los Angeles, so that it was not possible to check their grader. MR. HANSEN of Brown Bevis Equipment Company was present and stated that his company would be glad to have one of their representatives take any of the men to Los Angeles to see this piece of equipment, and he believed there was a grader working in Orange County at the present time that they could see in operation. MAYOR FRITZ stated that he thought the grader should be tried out in National City to actually know 11/3 130 how it works under our conditions, A REPRESENTATIVE OF SHAW SALES & SERVICE COMPANY was present and stated that his company maintained a parts department and have service men, factory trained, to take care of the Allis- Chalmers equipment; that it might be a year or several years before any service would be needed but they would always be here to take care of it. MR. HANSEN said they have no assur- ance that they will not have a place in San Diego a year from now, and if the City bought one of their graders and any ser- vice was required on it, they could have their men here within a few hours to take care of it. ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER DICKSON stated that he would like to see the machines in action before he would make any recommen- dations. Moved by Matthews, seconded by Thatcher, that Administrative Off4cer Dickson and Street Superintendent Finnerty be author- ized to make the necessary arrangements to have the demonstra- tions made on the graders on which bids were received. Car- ried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Moved by Matthews, seconded by Thatcher, that the meeting be closed. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. ATTEST; CITY CLERK 11/3
