Adjourned meeting of June 19, 1945, of the City Council
called to order by the Mayor.
Councilmen present: Christman, Cordingly, Thatcher, Fritz.
Councilmen absent: Newberry.

Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Christman, that the bills be
allowed and warrants ordered drawn for same. Carried, all Coun-
cilmen present voting aye.
REPORT FROM BUREAU OF TIE CENSUS taken as of May 22, 1945,
• state4he population was 17,654, was read. Moved by Cardingly,
seconded by Christman, that the report be accepted. Carried,
all Councilmen present voting aye.
COLB:UNICATION FROM CHIEF OF POLICE stating that Ed. C.
Purkhiser left the City employ June 19, 1945, was read and ord-
ered filed.
COLTMUNICATION FROM CHIEF OF POLICE stating that D. L.
Cronk left the City employ June 3, 1945, to enter military
service, was read and ordered filed.
• RESOLUTION NO. 2897 was read, authorizing the appointment
of Tomas W. Baker to the Police department at $170.00 per month
effective June 20, 1945. Moved by Christ/an, seconded by Cord-
ingly, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Council-
men present voting aye.
CONTRACT WITH U. S. NAVY for Street cleaning was discussed
and laid over until the next meeting.

OPENING BID onLot 21, Block 173, City Plat for County Tax
Sale, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Christman, that
the opening bid be set at $100.00. Carried, all Councilmen pres-
ent voting aye.
NOTICE OF HEARING by Railroad Commission vs Alton H. Putnum,
dba California Southern Bus.Co. relative operating a bus to
Paradise Valley without a permit, set for July 5, 1945, at 1:30
P. M. in the City Hall, was read. Moved by Christman, seconded
by Cordingly, that the Attorney attend the hearing and enter no
protest. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
C0Th/IUNICATION FROM F. J. THATCHER was read, enclosing a
simplified plan for Disaster Prepardness, also his resignation
as Commander of the National City Defense Council. Moved by
Christman, seconded by Cordingly, that the resignation be accepted.
Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Mayor Fritz extended
his appreciation to Mr. Thatcher, on behalf of the City Officials
and the community, for his time and services rendered in such a
commendable manner when the personal safety of everyone was at
stake during the early months of the war.
RESOLTUION NO. 2899 was read, authorizing the salary adjust-
ments, effective June 15, 1945, as follows: Gladys F. Bulmer,
$150.00 and Florence W. Kibbey, $140.00. Moved by Cordingly, sec-
onded by Thatcher, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting aye.

RESOLUTION NO. 2900 was read, authorizing the following

RESOLUTION NO. 2901 was read, accepting the bid of Claude
Tichenan for $450.00 on model A 1931 Ford truck and a welding
machine.

MAYOR FRITZ instructed the City Clerk and City Engineer to
work on plans to make application to the State for $15,000.00
to be used on Post War Projects.
MR. WOODS OF THE BLACK AND WHITE CAB CO. was present and
reported that the San Diego and Electric Ry. Co. buses were
using their curb area for bus stops. Councilman Newberry stated
the bus company had not obtained permission to change their bus
stops and requested the Chief of Police to make a count of the
number of spaces now used by the cab companys for stands and the
number of feet in each space. Councilman Christman suggested
that the Police Dept. give traffic citations to the Ry. Co. buses
when they stop in undesignated stops. Moved by Newberry, seconded
by Christman, that the City Clerk write a letter to the S. D. Elec.
Ry•
Co., and request them to repair the bus stops at 8th Street
and National Avenue and 8th Street and Highland Avenue. Carried,
all Councilmen present voting aye.
PARK SUPT. GAUTEREAUX was present relative to the War Recreat-
ion budget. Mayor Fritz suggested that until funds are available
from the Federal Works Agency or the USO, the War Recreation
Committee pay the salary of the Supervisor for a couple of months.

and that the City is willing to carry the same portion of the
budget as last year.
RESOLUTION NO. 2902 was read, rescinding the original
budget and adopting the new budget as submitted by the War Rec-
reation Council and authorizing Mayor Gilbert E. Fritz as the
agent to sign for the City. Moved by Thatcher, seconded by
Christman, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Council-
men present voting aye.
MAYOR FRITZ appointed Councilman Thatcher to serve as Chair-
man of the Disaster Prepardness Committee and to work on plans
with Chief of Police Bates and Fire Chief Bird.
Mayor Fritz adjourned the meeting until 7:00 P. M. July 3r4,
1945.
