"Copy of th3 agreement for the payment of $ 21.38 by the Federal Government for the closing of portion of 4th, 5th and 6th streets within the UNited States Naval Repair Base filed by the Bureau of Yards and Docks. Request of Mrs. Dan Corliss, director of the Girl Scouts of the Casa de Salud, for permission to do carol singing within the City. Moved by Fritz, seconded by Cordingly, that permission he granted. J t Eport of the Traffic Committee recommending that a dividing line be painted on Palm Avenue from Division Street to at least 4th Street and further if the County machine is available, also that the traffic ordinance has been reviewed and is in process of being prepared for submission to the Council. Moved by Fritz, seconded by Cordingly, that the report be accepted and the matter of the center line on Palm Avenue be referred to the Street Superintendret. Councilmen absent: none. 549 • A S '(Request of Mrs. W.B.Dayton for veterans exemption on her property at 1433 Coolidge Street as her husband is a war veteran and has lust returned from seventeen months overseas duty and could not claim his exemption during the period set by law. Moved by Christman, seconded RESOLUTION NO. 2550 be adopted, stating that by Cordingly, that/the exemption of $ 1,000 be granted and that a refund be made on her first installment of City taxes. Schweitzer at 140 East 5th Street, as he is on overseas duty and the waiver which he asked for in June never was received by him. Moved by Christman, seconded by Cordingly, that RESOLUTION NO. 2551 be adopted, granting veterans exemption of $ 1,000 on the property of Charles M. Schweitzer. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call. Councilmen absent: none. Notification of alcoholic beverage license application of George F. Young dba White Palace Grill No. 4, 640 West 13th Street, read and ordered filed. ✓Communication from San Diego County Road Department enclosing claim for $ 3,931.61 for signing. City Clerk reported that Mayor Thatcher has signed the claim and that it has been sent back to the County for the issuance of the warrant. I/Comprehensive Insurance Policy which had been referred to Council- man Christman for checking was found in order. Moved by Christman, seconded by Cordingly, that the policy be accepted and the premium paid. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call. City Assessor Dale Smith submitted the follovd.ng requests for cancellations and additions to the current roll: On the property of G.A. and Norrie Olson, a double assessment of 2,000 on improvements located on the J.R.Clark property in 80 Acre lot 1, 4 Sec. 129, Nat'l Ro cancellation of 3 2,000 imps reouested On the property of Freida M Pallas, a double assessment of $ 300 on the N 100f of the S 140f of the Si of the E4 of the W2 of the Si, ex the E 401 st, also assessed to Catherine E. Pallas. Cancellation request 550 On the property of M.E.Shedowdy, an error in assessing lot 24, block 215, City Plat, there being no property of that description. Cancellation from roll requested. Request for addition of the assessment on the gravel plant at the foot of West 13th Street toe Defense Plant Corporation. Moved by Christman, seconded by Newberry, that RESOLUTION NO. 2552 be adopted, authorizing the canrellations and the one addition to the current t,x roll. Johnson dba National Lumber and Mill ompany, as overassessment on personal property and the request of a refund of $ 188.76. On the personal property of Mrs. Robert Turner, the sum of g 1.56 being a double payment. On the property of Metropolitan Securities Company by J.C. Rice, Secy, an assessment of $ 500 on a building nearer built. A refund of $ 7.80 being requested. Moved by Newberry, seconded by Cordingly, that RESOLUTION N0. 2553 be adopted, authorizing the refunds. Carried,all Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call. Communication from Mayor Benjamin Polak of La Mesa regarding the adoption of the resolution on the San Diego County Water Authority read and laid over until the next meeting. /Councilman Christman reported on the bid for painting th- Library Building recommending that all the painting except the wood trim on both the Library Building and the City Hall be held over until the next budget year. Moved by Fritz, seconded by Christman, that the wood trim on the City Hall and Library be painted and that the Library Board be asked to include an appropriation in the next budget for the painting of the Library. Carried, all Councilmen present voti:ig aye. Councilmen absent: none. ✓Councilman Christman stated that representative of the Mark -Time 551 Ai I Parking meter had contacted him and that he would like to have the Council and the Traffic Committee to consider this meter. Moved by Newberry, seconded by Fritz, that Mr. Weir be notified to contact the , Traffic Committee. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Cou!icil- men_ absent: none. ✓Councilman Christman stated that he believed that the restroom in the Park at the foot of the hill in back of the City Hall should be opened and put in service for the public. Estimate on repairs is $ 71.47 Moved by Christman, seconded by Cordingly, that the Park Superintendent be authorized to make the necessary repairs. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: none. /In regards to the portion of the Housing Project Olivewood No. 3 adjacent to City limits, it Was moved by Newberry, seconded by Christman that the City Attorney be instructed to start annexation proceedings. "E1ty Attorney reported that the taxes on the Bennie Gray property are going to be straightened out by Mr. Gray. In the matter of a franchise for the buses, it was moved by Fritz, seconded by Newberry, that the City Attorney be authorized to contact Sam Mason of the San Diego Electric Railvay regarding same. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.
