The adjourned meeting of the City Council called to order by
the Mayor. councilmen present: Christman, Cordingly, Fritz, Newberry
and Thatcher. Councilmen absent: none
Administrative officials pnesent: Knapp, Smith, Estelle, Lamb,
Ireland and Bird.

construction of a new dam at Sweetwater Falls, referred to the City
Attorney.

at hand. Mayor Thatcher cn]led for protests. Being none, it was moved

C.P.Trelcnd, rite Engineer, reported that the drainage at the
foot of 13th Street at Cleveland ove'ne is bad and that the Navy has
offered to lay the pipe cif the City purchases sane. Moved by
Christman, seconded by Newberry, that Mr. Ireland be instructed to
communicate With the nroner authori Lv of the A.T.& S.F.Ry. Company
as to the costs of the d rainage. Carried, all `councilmen present
voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.
o/^.R._Ireland, City Enmineer, reported that the Division of
Highways contacted him on the changing of the Present route of
Highway 101 to Harbor Blvd, coming onto ?National Avenue at 8th Street.
Moved by Fritz, seconded by Newberry, that the discussion of the
proposed change in Rizhway 101 be laid over. Carried, all Councilmen
present voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.
it Chief Knapp submitted the quotations received on new cars for
the police department. After discussion, it was decided to purchase
from National Motors Company
two new cars/for the police department from the 1943-1944 budget.
Moved by Fritz, seconded by Cordingly, that RESOLUTION NO. 2485 be
adopted, anthorizir_g the purchase of one new 1942 Plymouth Special
Deluxe Sedan, incl'taina sales tax, but no license fee, at the net
cost to the City of 709.90. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye on roll -call. Councilmen absent: none.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Newberry, that RESOLUTION P0.
2486 be adopted, authorizing the purchase of one new 1942 Plymouth
Speoial Deluxe Sedan, incliz3in^, sales tax, but no license fees, at the
net cost to the City of t 594.90. Carried, all Councilmen present
voting aye on roll -call. Thuncilmen absent: none.
Chief Vnanp requested the appointment of Russell H. Davis,
Chief of the Plant Guard at the Concrete Ship Constructors, as a
special police officer and submitted his bond. Moved by Newberry,
seconded by Christman, that Russell E. Davis he appointed as special
police officer of the City of National City and that bis bond be
accepted. Carried, a 11 Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen
absent: none.
Councilman Fritz proposed that the purchase by the City of the
half block south of the City Cnrare for $ 500 be set up in the new
budget. for 1943-1944. Moved by Newberry, seconded by Cordingly, that
Mr. Fritz negotiate for the purchase of the land. Carrie d, all Council.

an extra denut'* to assist in the work for one month. Moved by Cordingl
seconded by Christman, that RESOLTuLON PTO. 2497 be adopted, employing
Mrs. Lillie Cairns for one month at the salary of t 100.00, as of
ti t July 1, 1943. Carried, all Councilman present votingai*e on roll=call.
