July 7, 1942
A regular meeting of the City Council called to order by the
Mayor. Councilmen present: Cordingly, Christman, Fritz, Newberry,
Thatcher. Councilmen absent: none.
Administrative officials present: Bird, Campbell, Burch, Smith,
Finnerty, Ireland, Knapp, Gautereaux and 'Jamb.
Minutes of the June 16 and June 30 meetings, read and approved.
Bills audited by the City Council present:
General Fund $ 1,665.79
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Fritz, that the bills be allowed and
warrants drawn for same. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on
roll -call. Councilmen absent: none.
�Mr. Gautereaux, Park Sup't, reported that the entry fees at the
swimming pool have been changed since the last meeting and the new
fees must be adopted.
'Moved by Christman, seconded by Fritz, that the City Council
re -consider the entry fees at the pool. Carried, all Councilmen present
voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.
JMoved by Fritz, seconded by Cordingly, that the fee of 10% up to
and including the age of 11 years, the fee of 15% from 12 to 15 years
inclusive and 20% from 16 years and up, be adopted for the 1942 season
at the pool. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen
absent: none.
/ Representative of the Navy Mothers Club present requesting
permis si on of the City Council to hold a Tag Sale on Saturday, June
25th withthe proceeds going to Navy relief and entertainment of the
service boys. Moved by Newberry, seconded by Cordingly, that their
request be granted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.

,/ Petiton of Fred V. Stahl and Margaret Stahl for a 10 unit trailer
camp, read and referrel to the City Planning Commission.
Mr. W.E.Brackenbury of the Tavares Construction Company present
requesting the City Council to close portion of west 14th Street.
City Attorney Campbell presented an ordinance closing portion of west
14th Street. Moved by Newberry and seconded by Christman and Cordingly,
that the heading only be read. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye. Councilmen absent: none.

City Engineer Ireland submitted information from theDivision of
Highways that the materials being dredged from the bay at the present
time is not suitable for the fills on Harbor Drive but that the materia]
already deposited on the tidelands will be suitable. City Engineer
instructed to keep track of the program. Moved by Christman, seconded by
Cordingly, that the City Engineer have authority to handle the matters'
pertaining to Harbor Drive.,Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.

'IAnnual Report of the National City Library read and or dered filed.
✓Chief of Police Knapp requested the City Council to ask for the
deferrment of Alton Lewis Oyer. Moved by Christman, seconded by Cordingl
that 6hief Knapp be authorized to ask for the deferrment of Police office

none.

Moved by Fritz, seconded by Christman, that the City Clerk be
authorized to take out war risk insurance on the City property. Carried
all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.
Moved by Fritz, seconded by Christman, that the premium of $ 59.15
on certain buildings and contents, as per statement of H.A.Barnes,
Agent, be paid. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call
Councilmen absent: none.
City Clerk Dale.Smith presented Ordinance creating the office
a°of the Co-ordinator of Civilian Defense in the City of National City,
for the final reading and passage. Moved by Newberry, seconded by
Cordingly, that ORDINANCE NO. 690, providing for the office of
co-ordinator of Civilian Defense and prescribing his duties and
responsibilites, be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye on roll -call. Councilmen absent: none.
✓Moved by Christman, seconded by Fritz, that the department heads
be authorized to carry a message to the City Employees that the salary
raises are being considered and will be retroactive to July 1, 1942.
Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.
✓Moved by Newberry, seconded by Christman, that the Mayor and the
Property officer be authorized to sign the agreements with OCD, Carried
all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.
Being no further business, it was moved by Cordingly, seconded by
Fritz, that the meeting adjourn. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye. Councilmen absent: none.
