A regular meeting of the City Council called to order by the
Mayor. CounciLmen present: Christman, Cordingly, Fritz, Newberry,
Thatcher. Councilmen absent: none.
Administrative officials present: Smith, Campbell, Burch,
Ireland, Lamb, Bird, Knapp and Gautereaux.
Minutes of the regular meeting of September 20, 1942, read and
approved.

Ivloved by Fritz, seconded by Cordingly, that the bills be allowed and
warrants drawn for same. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on
roll -call. Councilmen absent: none.
✓Lt. Stanley of the United States Army Engineers present with a
request for additional disposal area for dredged material. Matter ref-
erred to the City Engineer, Mr. Ireland.
Mikkelson, representing the Nati nal City Chamber of Commerce
present with a request that an tp-to-date map of National City including
the tidelands be ma'_e available to the printer. City Engineer Ireland
reported that the map has been ready for over a week and that the prints.

Raymond Hill present with a request that the horseshoe pitching
alleys be put into condition for play. City Park Sup't Gautereaux
stated that now that the summer season is over at the pool, the improve-
ment will b e made.

...'Requests of Lloyd P. Hudson of 3645 Filbert Street, San Diego
end Manuela G.T.Hernandez of 2227 J Street, San Diego,for pe1-i isston
to move houses into National City, presented. Suggested by Councilman
Fritz, that Councilman Christman and Chief Bird be appointed as a
committee to investigate these requests for permission to move
structures inb the City and that their recommendations be followed by
the Council. Mayor Thatcher appointed the committee as suggested and
referred the Hudson and Hernandez requests to the committee.
"Request of the Natirnal City school district for a deed to lots
13 and 14, Block 208, City Plat, which was purchased from the City in
1918, referred to the City Attorney.
"Upon the request of Chief of Police Knapp, it wes moved by
Cordingly, seconded by Fritz, that a certified bheck be drawn in the
amount of ) 168.00 for the purchase of 6 Colt revolvers from the Defense
Supplies Corporation of t:ashington, D.C. Carried, all Councilmen presen•

✓Surety bond of C.B.lfeland referred to the City Attorney with
the instructions to withhold payment of the premium until approved.

to the le.se with the Tavares Construction Company and the use of the

Request of Tames A. Bird, Fire Chief, fbr the appointment of

Fireman McCourrey and Fireman 3. Rates to the position of regular fire-
men et the base pay of 160.00 per month effective October 1, 1942.
Moved by Newberry, seconded by Cordincly, that RESOLUTION NO. 2398 be
2,4 adopted, appointing these men at the base pay of $ 160.00 per month,
effective October 1, 1942. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye or

Request of Flo••rd Finnerty, Sup't of Streets, r equestinv an
increase in compensation for R.H.Buettemeir and Johr Egan to thetbase
34°1 pay of $ 160.00 per month, effective October 1, 1942. i'ioved by Fritz,
seconded by Christman, that RESOLUTION O. 2399 be adopted, raising
these two men to ?t 160.00 per month effective October 1, 1942. Carried,
all Councilmen present voting aye on ro-l-call. Councilmen absent: none.
Xlotification of Alobholic Beverage License application of James
E Stevens, Jr., from the estate 3onrd of Equalization, read. Chief Knapp
stated that this is a transfer of an off -sale beer and wine license and
that he had no objections. Application ordered filed.
Communication from V.R.Dennis Constructs on Company, contractors,

advising the City that they have been awarded the contract for the
Improvement of Harbor Drive and Eighth Streets between Roosevelt Avenue
in' National City and "C" Street in San Diego and asking that the City
take such protection as may be deemed necessary to protect any of the
City Improvements on these streets. City Street Sup't Finnerty will
keep advised ns to the progress of the work.

Fritz, seconde l by Christman, that RESOLUTION NO. 2400 be adopted,
authorizing the Mayor to sign the modified revocable permit for the
sewer lines on Naval proporty. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye on roll -call. Councilmen absent:: none.

be authorized to enter into an agreement with the County of San Diego
whereby the City of National City will claim a pro-rata share of the
proceeds of the tax sales of prouertywithin the corporate limits of
National City up to the time of deed to the State of California. Carrie
all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.

total registered workers to and including September 30, 1942 of 2,766

/# City Attorney Burch presented the information secured by Asa R.
Webb, City Treasurer, on the bonds on the Levi property adjacent to the
City Park on the south. Iuoved by Fritz, seconded by Christman and
Cordingly, that the City Attorney be authorized to contact Frank J. Faus
, bondsman, regarding the purchase of the outstanding bonds for not more
than a) 425.00. Carriedi all Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call.

/Park Sup't Gautereaux requested permission to purchase a used
truck for the park department for the amount of a 850.00 and the trade i
of the old truck. Moved by Christman, seconded by Fritz, that Mr.
Gautereaux be authorized to make the deal fbr the truck at `0 850.00
plus the trade-i1j of the present park truck. Carried; all Councilmen
present voting aye on roll -call. Councilmen absent: none.
