Einstein, Attorney for National City Taxi Cab Company, requested that a provision be made in the Taxi Cab ordinance for the pro -bating of the license for a portion of the year. Mayor Thatcher advised him that the Taxi Cab ordinanee had been adopted and would go into affect August 14, 1941 and that there could be not pro -rating of the license. `k Mrs. C.J.Brown, owner of the Topsy Drive -Inn Cafe presented plans for the improvement of the building which they are movirg into National City, but stated that all the contemplated additions could not'be made at this time. Protest of Glenn Glasford regarding this building read. Mrs. Brown instructed to bring in plans for the 243 icke improvement of the building withoutethe dining room to the adjourned meeting of the City Council on Thurdday morning, August 7, 1941. Request of the property owners and residents of Van Ness Avenue for the widening of the corner of 20th street and Van Ness Avenue presented. The owner of the corne8 will give enough of his land to do the widening if he has 10 days notice so that he can move his fence Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Fritz, that the matter be referred to the Sup't of Streets and the City Engineer. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: Warner. / Request of Mr. Stahl for the grading of Harding Avenue near his auto court, presented. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the matter be referred to the "City Engineer and the Sup't of Streets. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilman absent Warner. 4(Communication from W.E.Starke regarding a petition for the purchase of numerous lots through tax sale from the County of San Diego which he submitted at a previous date, read. Moved by Fritz, seconded by Kilcrease, that the communication be filed. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: Warner.. /Communication feom the Railroad Commission of the State of California regarding the spur track running to the Scheiffer Company read mand referred back to the City Attorney. KCommunication from the California Water and Telephone Company regarding the complaints which have been received by the City on the breaks in the water mains, read and ordered filed. 41 Communication from R.L.3euthel, District Office Engineer, Division of Highways, regarding the approval of Grove Street from 18th to 24th Street as a Street of Major Importance, read. Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Cordingly, that RESOLUTION NO. 2256 be adopted, approving Grove Street from 18th to 24th Streets, as a Street of Malor Importance. Carried, all Councilmen presnent voting aye on roll -call. Councilmen absent: nerre.Wcwy A Recommendation of the Traffic Commission for the cross -hatching of National Avenue at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Sth and 6th Streets, read. Councilmen absent: Warner. /Communication from the Pacific Coast Building Officials Conference regarding the 19th Annual meeting at Santa Barbara, read and referred to the Building Inspector. Communication from the International Association of Chiefs of Police regarding the 48th Annual Conference at New York, read and referred to Chief of lolice. 'Communication from the American Red Cross thanking the City for the kindness shown them by Mr. Gautereaux for the use of the Municipal Park for the annual Red Cross picnic on July 20, 1941, read and ordered filed. wi Petition of 54 voters and property owners requesting a 25-mile speed limit zone along Palm Avenue from 8th Street to 18th Street and install a Stop signal on Palm Avenue at intersection of 18th Street, read and referred to the Traffic Commission. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: Warner. -"Moved by Fritz, seconded by Cordingly, that the City pay for the oil for the improverent of the street in front of tax -deeded property. Carried, all ouncilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: Warner. liSup't of Recreation Gautereaux if it would be legal to charge admission to special ballgames and if the City would in anyway be liable. Matter referred to the City Attorney. `X Peport of the Aluminum drive of 790 lbs read and accepted by the City Council. Being no further business, it was moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the meeting adjourn until 9:45 am, August 7, 1941. 246 Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
