A regular meeting of the City Council called to order by the
Mayor. Councilmen present: Fritz, Kilcrease, Warner, Thatcher. Council-
men absent: Cordingly.
Administrative officials present: Johnson, Smith, Webb, Lamb,
Ireland, Gautereaux, Knapp.
Minutes of the previous meeting of February 18, 1941, read and
approved.

(Mr. Harold Spaulding representing the Sweetwater Nursery offered
a Modesto Ash tree to the City to be planted at a location chosentby
the City. Mayor Thatcher thanked him for his -offer and accepted the
tree for the Park Department.
"Invitation from the Shoreline Planning Association of California,
Inc., to attend a meeting on March 5th in La Jolla, read and ordered
filed.
f1otificatidn from the War Department of the application of the
Commandant, Eleventh Naval District for a permit to extend the existing
Navy pier, read and ordered filed.

and referred to the Chief of Police.
Petition of Frederick H. Jensen for a pool and card room license,
read and referred to the Chief of Police.
Communication from the League of California Cities in regard to
the Mayors and Councilmen's Department Conference in Fresno on March 7
and 8th, read. Moved by Warner, seconded by Kilcrease, that one member
of the City Council be authorized to attend the conference. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent: Cordingly.

Ralph Chapman, read and upon the approval of the Chief of Police, r

RESOLUTION NO. 2207, ordering the closing of "F" Avenue from 28th

presented. Moved by Warner, seconded by Kilcrease, that the RRsolution

/ City Tax CollectorrAsa R. Webb requested to work up the taxes on
Lots 19 and 20, Block 143, City Plat
✓City Attorney Johnson presented Ordinance No. 679 for final reading.
Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Warner, that ORDINANCE NO. 679, be
adopted, licensing ice cream peddlers at $ 90.00 per calendar year.
Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call. Councilmen
absent: Cordingly.
✓Complaint to quiet title on lots 13 and 14, Block 51, City Plat.,
entered by the Alexander Construction Company, filed with the City
Council by City AttorneyJohnson. Moved by Warner, seconded by Kilcrease,
rah' that RESOLUTION NO. 2210 ' be adopted, authorizing the Mayor to enter into
the suit2in behalf of the City of National City. California. Carried,
all Councilmen present votingaye on roll -call. Councilmen absent: q

City Clerk requested permission to have the Tax Ordinance bound
in book form. Moved by Warner, seconded by Fritz, that permission be

granted. cCarried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen absent;
Cordingly.
k Chief of Police Knapp recommended that the applications of John D.
Hasly and Frederick H. Jensen for pool end card root licenses, be
granted. Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Fritz, that his recommendation
be sustained. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen
absent: Cordingly.
0/Chief of Police Knapp recommended that the application of D.C.Neary
to operate a pool and Bard room at 28 W. 8th Street, be denied. Moved
by Warner, seconded by Kilcrease and Fritz, that the recommendation of
the Chief of Police be sustained. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
are. Councilmen absent: Cordingly.
Upon the matter of the newel of the Fire Insurance policies,
Councilman Fritz, chairman of the Finance Committee, reported that the
policies will be in for recommendation at the next meeting.
City Attorney Johnson authorized to write to the Railroad
Commission .ito ascertain the status of the spur track running from 8th
Street to Schieffers Furniture Company.
City Engineer Ireland stated that the cost of raising the spur
track will be $ 265.00, if the City furnishes the dirt for the fill.
✓Park Sup't Gautereaux requested information as to when S.R.A.
labor will be available. City Engineer Ireland stated that the contracts
are to be renewed if the State Legislature approves the allocation of
additional funds.
✓City Clerk authorized to obtain prices on steel shelving for the
vault.
Being no further business, it was moved by Fritz, seconded by
Kilcrease, that the meeting adjourn. Carried's all Councilmen present
voting aye. Councilmen absent: Cordingly.
