The regular meeting* of the City Council called to order by the
City Clerk Dale Smith, Nominations were in cr der for Mayor. Councilman
Thatcher nsminated David W. Bird f^r Mayor. Nomination seconded by
Councilman Warner end Cordingly. Being no further nominations, David
W. Bird was declared duly elected Mayor of the City of National City.
City Mork Dale Smith turned the gavel over to Mayor Bird, who
proceerled with the business of the meeting.
Councilmen present: Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, Warner, Bird.
Councilmen absent: none.
Administrative officials present: Campbell, Smith, Knapp, Lamb,
Ireland, Gautereaux.

cut warrants drawn for same. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
ye on roll -call. Councilmen absent: None.
'Mr. T.G.Cozine, 402 West 13th Street, presented a petition of
residents and property owners, requesting that the street litht at the
corner of Wilson and 13th Street be(changed to the corner of Harding
and 13th Street. Moved by Cordin 1y, seconded by Thatcher, that the
petition be referred to City Engineer Ireland. Carried; all Councilmen
voting aye. Councilmen absent: none.
/ Mrs. Walter Ellis requested that the City Council consider the
beautification of the water front during the tideland innrovement by
having a park at the foot of 8th Street. Mayor Bird thanked Mrs. Ellis
for her interest and assured her that her suggestion will be considered

refund of license fee paid under City Ordinance; read and referred to
the City Attorney.
;Request from Mrs. Henry N. Aslin for refund of taxes paid on an
over -assessment, read and referred to the City Attorney and the City
Clerk.
Report of the City Treasurer on taxes collected on the current
roll and compared to the taxes collected as of the same period last
year.
-Commuication from the Department of ;rotor Vehicles regarding the
registration of the'1939 Studebaker and Ford, quoting the total fees
that must be paid of •$ 20.26 in order to clear the vehicles. City
Attorney stated that the warrant had been made out for that amount
and would be sent to Sacramento at once.
Communication from Faulkner, (ekes and Faulkner regarding the
annual audit, read and ordered file,].
Request from the United States Army Engineers and Federal
Authorities that the City of National City adopt:a Resolution
authorizing the Government to dump fill on the tidelands and releasing
the Federal Government from any claim to damages arising therefrom.

2090 authorizing the Federal Government to fill the low-lying lands
adjacent to the City -owned tidelands and City -owned lands and assuming
the responsibility therefore, beradopted. Carried, all Councilmen

the use, sale or storage of fireworks within the City of National City.

work out a plan to control the remodeling of old structures within the
City.
C.B.Ireland reported that the County will help on the oiling of
Rachel Avenue from 16th to 18th Streets, if the proper request is made
from the City.

requesting the Board of Supervisors to authorize the assistance of the
County Roacl department in the resurfacing of certain streets within the
Cit,r limits, be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on

authorized to enter into an agreement for the rental of a new electric
Burroughs Typewriter- 18 inch carriage. Carried, all Councilmen
