Holman to install three 550-gallon gasoline storage tanks at 21st Street and Highland Avenue be referrer' to the Fire Chief. Recommendation of Police Chief Knapp for the promotions of Radio Patrolman Harry Smith, Lowell Bullen and John Owens to Sergeants, the compensation of each to remain the -same, together with the recommends= tion of the appointment of Franklin Reed as Special Officer to serve without compensation, read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Warner, be granted. Carried. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease that Herman Harris, as ✓well as, the Street Department men be placed on a monthly basis as of August 1, 1940. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on rollcall. Councilman Thatcher: Absent. ✓ Health Department Report ordered filed without reading. 'Librarian's Annual Report ordered filed. Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Warner that the Fire and Theft 119 Insurance Policies on the '36 Chev. Pickup and the Automatic Dump Truck, together with the Workmen's Compensation Policy and Mr. Knapp's ✓Bond be accepted as to form on the approval of the Attorney. Carried, all Councilman present voting aye on roilcall. Councilman Thatcher: absent. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease the $42.06 be deducted from B. J. Gautereaux's pay of August 15th in return for that which he received from the State Compensation Insurance in that his regular salary was paid at the time of his injury. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call. Councilman Thatcher: absent. Annual Report of the City Engineer to the Division of Highways of ..// the maintenance of Streets of Major Importance read and ordered filed. Letter from the International Association of Chiefs of Police regarding the 1940 Police Executives' Congress to be held in Milwaukee, Wis., read and ordered filed. A model Ordinance "Prohibiting Trespassing and Loitering for the Protection of Industries Vital to National Defense" referred to the City Attorney. Statement of City Assessor, Dale Smith, of assessed values for 1940-1941, read and ordered filed. Based on figures now available it was moved by Warner, seconded by Cordingly that the tax rate for the year 1940-1941 be set tenta- tively at 01.65. Carried, all Councilmen present voting ay. Council- man Thatcher: absent. Moved by Warner, seconded by Cordingly that the project statement of the Division of Highways for the improvement of State Highway Route No. 2 be accepted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Council- man Thatcher: absent. Notice from the County of the application of C. W. Watts to pur- chase tax deeded property described as Lots 19 and 20 of Block 215 of the City Plat for $45.00, ordered laid over awaiting return of the Attorney.
