A regular meeting, of the City Council called to order by the
Man -or. Councilmen present: Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, 'darner,
Bird. Councilmen absent: none.
Minutes of the adjourned meeting, of Mal 1, 1939 read and
ordered corrected as follows: Page 259, line 7, " $ 175.00" chanced
to read " S 75.00". So done and the minutes we •e appro-ed as
correcte4. Minutes of the adjourned me tires of May 8, 1939,
and appioued.

Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Co rdingly, that the bills be
allewei and warrants drawn for same. Carried, all Councilmen
present voting* ave on roll -call. Councilmen absent: none.
Mr. Hastings, representing, the parents of chi ldre4 res__ding
West of national Avenue, present regarding school crossing guards
especially at 18th st and National Avenue. Moved by Cordingly,
seconded by Kilcrease, that a SRA guard he obtained. Carried, all
Councilmen Present voting aye.
,Mr. Kays, representing the National City Democratic Club,
inquired rbout the control of the mosquitoes. Mr. Ireland reported
that mosquito fish had been placed in most of the pools.
Mr. Johnson of the Sunset Oil Company offered the oil rompany
vier to the City at a low price. City Council in] orned him that the
Cit- is not interested.
Harry Fosdick of the Sweetwater faculty present regarding the
Civic students taking over the City Government for May 23, 1939.
Mayor Bird stated that the City Council would be Rlad to grant
their request.
• Mr. U.L.lWarden present regarding the concession for a
miniature steam train in the Park. City Attorney Canpbell stated
that the City is liable Tor dnmag,,s in case of injury. Matter laid
over until next meeting pending recornaendation of Park Superinten-
dent.
Walter B„uer spoke in behalf of h,.s client, Jack Rice,
regarding the e vroval of a proposed subdivision between 15th and
16th Streets and "I" and J Avenues. Matter laid over until next
meeting.
,Resolution Rio. 2030, recommending certain Streets of Major
Importance for Gas Tax Fund assistance, read. Moved by Varner,

seconded h-r Thatcher, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call. Councilmen absent:
none.
Mr. Chas M. Davis present regarding mosquito control, referred
to City Engineer Ireland.
' Proposal from Brown Motor Conr,any for the purchase of one
1939 Ford V8, read and ordered filed.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the following
delinauent taxes he accepted without the seven percent interest
and the cancellation fee:

'ORDINANCE. NO. 666 presented for second reading. Lloved by
Warner, seconded by Kilcrease, that the heading only he read.

none. City Attorney Campbell rend the heading, ORDINANCE NO. 666,
An Ordinance Regulating and prohibiting parking of vehicles on, -
certain public streets of the City of National City, State of
California. Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Warner, that the
Ordinance be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye
on roll -call. Councilmen absent: none.
.Upon the recommedation of „the_ Chief 'of Police that' the
petition of -the'3ayrnView Sodial(Club-for two card tables be
denied, it was moved by Warner, seconded by Iilcrease, that the
license be denied. Carries', all Councilmen present voting ave.
Councilmen absent: none.
Recommendation of the Planning Commission that the half

blocks on er,ch side of Idat_onal Avenue from Fifteenth to
Thirtieth Streets that are not zoned Bor business be chanEed from
and R-2 zone to a C-2 zone, ordered filed.

RESOLUTION AO. 2031 approving the lease agreement for the
1939 Studebaker for the police department and authorizing the Mayor
to enter into the agreement on bahalf of the City of National City,
read. Moved by Warner, seconded by Thatcher, that the Resolution
be accepted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on roll -call,
Councilmen absent: none.
'Moved by Thatcher, seconded by Warner, that the request of the
Library board for the appointment of Nrs. Darsie Anderson to fill
the vacancy caused by the death of Mrs. Thelen, be approved.

Arnold Cayser representing Donald C. Burnha.R+s subdivision at
28th Street rnd J Avenue, present. Moved by Cordingly, seconded
ICilcrease, that RES..LDTION NO. 2032 accenting; the map of Olivewood
Square, be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye on
roll -call, Councilmen absent: none.
Moved by Warner, seconded by Cordingly, that a warrant:, be
drawn to pay the balance on Car No. 80. Carried, all Councilmen
present voting aye on roll -call. Councilmen absent: none.
Being no further business, it was moved by Cordingly, seconded
by Kilcrease, that the Council meeting adjourn until May 23, 1939
at M;30 P.II. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Councilmen
absent: none.
