Notice from the State Boar of Equalization of liquor
license application of Anthony-6sa for the Brown Bear, read
and ordered filed.
,Communication from Chief of Police Knapp for the appointment
of three special police officers to servecwithout compensation and
recommendiig the following: Ralph Finnerty; Charles T. Miller and
Edward Tait. ✓Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Cordingly, that the
Chief's recommendations be accepted and the men appointed. Carried,
n11 Councilmen present voting aye.

Request of the Southwestern Chamber of Commerce regarding the
celebration of the completion of the 28th street landing, read.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the communication
be filed. Carried, all Councilmen present votinr ave.
Verbal communication from the Board of Directors of the Casa de
Salud inviting the members of the City Council to attend the
luncheon on Monday, May 23rd, at noon at the Casa and the annual
election of officers.
Communication from the Division of Highways regarding the
inxtallation of directtnnal signs on Highway 101 and the estimated
cost of same, read.'Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Warner, that
the expenditure be approved and Mr. Ireland authorized to act in
behalf of the City. Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcr^age, Thatcher, Warner, Bird.
Nayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent; None.
Communication from Berbert A. Barnes ref -finding the distribution
of the City's insurance, read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by
Thatcher, that the letter be filed. Carried, all Councilmen present
voting aye.

//Request of the City Clerk for the cancellation of the 1920
delinquent City tax on the Ili of 10 Acre Lot 11, - Sec. 152, Nat'l
Rancho, now occupied by the Sweetwater High School, referred to the
City Attorney.

the cancellation fee on the N 85' of Lots 3 and 4, Block 2, Home -
crest "A", 4 Sec. 128, Nat'l Ro... vend. Moved by Warner, seconded
by Thatcher, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, by the followin
vote to -wit:

Hayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.

District No. 1, year 1938-39, read. Moved by Warner, seconded by
Ki.lcrease, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, by the following
vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, Starner, Bird.
Naves: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.
„Matter of street lttt at 28th and Highland and 21st and
Wilson up for discussion. Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by
Thatcher, that the light in front of the Senior High School be
changed to sodium vapor. Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, V:Srner, Bird.
Nayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the matter of
the street light at 21st and Wilson be referred to City Engineer
Ireland to secure a stima t,e of the cost of moving the light and the
cost of installation of reflectors at end of street. Carried, all
Councilmen present votin4 aye.
Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Cordingly, that the following
transfers be authorised:
$ 2,800 from the State Auto Tax Fund to the General Fund to cover

portions of salaries paid to police end firemen for police and dire
protection for State Highway since January 1, 1938;
'$ 745.18 from the State Auto Tax to the General Fund to cover
expenditures made on polite radios;
• $ 249.00 from the Sp. Gas Tax. St Imp Fund to the St Imp Fund to
cover labor and rentals on 18th Street for the month of May, 1938;
• $ 600.00 from the Alcoholic Beverare Licdnse Fee Fund to the General
end to cover portions of salaries paid to patrol:licdnsed liquor
establishments. Motion carried, by the following vote to:.wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, Warner, Bird.
Naves: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.
✓ Application of Raymond Garcia for card table license laid on
table until report from the Chief of Police.

No. 1, presented. Moved by Thatcher, seconded by Varner, that the
report be accepted and placed on file: Carried, by the following
vote to -wit:

Absent: none.

protests -National City Lighting Dist. No. 1, and directing City Clerk

No. 290 entitled ' An Ordinance regulating the keeping and licensing
of dogs within the corporate limits of the §ity of National City,
California, and providing penalties for its violation,' passed and

adopted August 3, 1909, placed on final passage. Moved by Thatcher,
seconded by Warner, that the Ordinance be adopted. Carried, by the
following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordii:gly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, Warner, Bird.
Naves: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.
/Moved by Cordinoly, seconded by Warner, that the drive on
dogs be started Monday, May 23rd, and that due to the'increase in
rabies, a state of, Quarantine be declared; the Street department

to co-operate with the County Wealth department and the Police
department. Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, Warner, Bird.
Nayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that in the blading
of streets, Mr. Ireland to give preference to the streets on which
the grade has been officially established. Carried, all Councilmen
present voting ave.
The opinion of City Attorney Campbell regarding the publication
of the delinquent tax list, read. After a general discussion, it was
moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the list be
published in the paper in accordance with the ruling* of the City
Attorney. Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Warner, Bird.
Naves: Councilman Thatcher.
Absent: none.
City Engineer Ireland reported that an extension telephone for
the W.P.A. Sewing Pro lect would cost C 1.10 per month. Moved by
Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the request of '"rs. Kraemer
forthe extension be gr'nted. Carried, by the following vote -to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatchdr, Warner, Bird.
Neves: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.
City Engineer Ireland reported that in theburning off of the
lots posted by the Fire Chief, a weer burner was nee3ed to funish
cleaning the lots. -He submitted the price of 8 17.50 for a weed -
burner to be used for this purpose and for use in certain street
work. Moved by Warner, seconded by Cordingly, that the City Engineer
to purchase one weed burner at $ 17.50. Carried, by the following
vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, Warner, Bird.
Nayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.
City Fnr-ineer Ireland reported that the alleys in Gilmore &
Jossiyn Subd assessed to the 3ehdol'dietrict have never been
officially closed and that the new building is located on the alley.
It was decided t nt the City Engineer contact the School Board
regarding the closing of the alleys -cost to be borne by the Board.
The closing of 22nd street referred to the Planning Commission.
'Fire Chief Bird requested further tine to consider the request
for a fire hydrant at the Junior High School.
