bills be allowed and warrants drawn for sarne. Carried by
the following vote to -wit:

,Petition of property owners in Hills of Paradise to
narrow East loth St from its present width of 60 feet to
40 feet, read. I1r. Kittle, spokesman for the petitioners,
substantiated the petition by oral argument. Moved by
Cordingly, seconded by Warner, that the petition be referred
to the Planning Commission. Carried, all Councilmen present
voting aye.
/Dr. Nolson and Mr. Larson of the Paradise Valley
Sanitarium at th,s time presented toithe Council a plan
for caring of Northy poor by the Sanitarium under the
charitable work done by the Institution, and asked the
co=operation of the Council in appointing a welfare committee
to work with them. Mayor Bird presented Mrs. Mae Mulvey and
Mrs. R.B.Reid of the National City Welfare Federation. Mrs.
Mulvey spoke of the Federation and their willingness to co-
operate with Dr.

and Kilcrease, that the request be referred to the City Engineer
checking street and to the City Attorney. -Carried; all Councilmen
present voting aye.
Communication from Guy and Guy submitting a refund on the
Public Liability policy and a bill for additional premium due
Fleet policy. Moved by Thatcher, seconded by Warner, that the
additional premium of $ 25.84 be paid. Carried, by the following
Vote to -wit: Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly,Kilcrease,Thatcher,Warner,
Bird. Nayes: Councilmen, none. asent: none. Moved by Kilcrease,
seconded by Warner, that the refund of $ 1.50 be accepted and placed
in the General fund. Carried, by the following vote -to -wit: Ayes:
Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease,Thatcher,Warner,Bird. Nayes: none.

✓Leonard Smith present and requested that stakes be set for
sidewalk at 18th St and I Ave., matter referred to the City Engineer.
(Z 414-/T 0 'RESOLUTION NO. 1860, authorizing the payment of 5 bonds and
110 interest coupons in Series F, read. Moved by Thatcher, see nded
by Cordingly, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Council-
men present voting aye.
'San Diego Consolidated Gas anti Electric Company presented a
check for Franchise tax for the year 1936 in the amount of
$ 1,626.43 with a statement of the revenue derived from gas
and electricity in the City of National 6ity that is subject to
fr4chise tax. Moved by Thatcher, seconded by Warner, that the
check be accepted and placed in the general fund. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting aye.
Communication from the Chamber of Commerce asking for a
patrolman in the business district, read and referred to the Chief
of Police.
Communication from the War Department regarding the application
of the Kelco Company for a permit to dredge portion of bay adjacent to
their plant, read and ordered filed.
A communication from Fred M. Tonge, District Supft of Schools,
expressing thanks for the school crossing guards and cor-mending the
Police department and the City Engineer for their cooperation in
making this project work to the highest efficiency, read and ordered
filed.
Communication from the Division of Highways enclosing a -

tabulation showing the apportionment of the January, 1937,
quarterly payment of the quarter cent gas tax allocation under
Section 194 of the Streets and Highways Code for Expenditure on
Streets of Major Importance in the various cities; National City's
share - $ 1,578.88, read and ordered filed.
'Communication from Howard Gardner, Field Representative of
the State League of California Municipalities regarding the status
of PWA and advising the City Officials to wait until some action
is taken in Washington before any further action is taken to have
the project approved, read and ordered filed.
ORDINANCE NO. entitled " An Ordinance of the City of
National City, California, providing for the issuance of Bonds
of said City in the sum of Twenty Thousand ( $ 20,000) Dollars
for the acquisition, construction and completion of a certain
municipal improvement consisting, of a City Hall, together with
the furnishing, and equipment of the same" read. Moved by Thatcher,
seconded by Cordingly, that the Ordinance be intvoduced and laid
over, under the rules and according to law. Carried, all Council-
men present voting aye.
a.041a/7 RESOLUTION NO. 1861 fixing the compensation of the Deputy City
Treasurer at $ 87.50 per month, effective Feb. 1, 1937, read. Moved
by Thatcher, seconded by Kilcrease, that the Resolution be adopted.
Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
Ig"/ RESOLUTION NO. 1862, fixing the compensation of the City Attorney
at Y 100.00 per month, effective Feb. 1, 1937, read. Moved by
Cordingly, seconded by Warner, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried,
all Councilmen present voting aye.
Moved by Warner, seconded ty Thatcher, that the following
transfers be authorized:
'$ 292.28 from the Sp.Gas Tax St Imp Fund to the St Imp Fund
64.00 from the Sp. Gas Tax Stlmp Fund to the General fund.
Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease,Thatcher,w rner,Bird.

.ORDINANCE NO. 649 entitled " An Ordinance of the City of
National City, California repealing Ordinance No. 56 of said
City entittled " An Ordinance creating a fire department for
National -'ity, California, creating certain officers therefor
and defining their duties and providing penalties for the
violation thereof."; and creating a Fire Department for the City
of National City, California, creating certain offices and officers
therefor and defining their duties, regulatimg their conduct and
fire control in the City of National City, and providing penalties
for the violation thereof.", read and placed on final passage.
Moved by Thatcher, seconded by Cordingly, that the Ordinance be
adopted. Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly,Kilcrease,Thatcher,Warner,bird.
INayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent: none.
✓ Chief bird spoke briefly on the situation of auto itrailors
and trailor camps, and asked that some regulatory measures be
adopted by the Council. Matter referred to the City Attorney.
- City Engineer Cayser reported that the Tree Trimming Project
has started. Also reported that at the present time there is now
operating in the City four WPA projects, three SRA projects and one
NYA.
City Attorney Campbell reported that the Whiting appeal case
is to be heard before the Supreme Court in Los Angeles on March
4th; that the bond election procedure is to be submitted to the
Bond Attorneys for approval and that he had been in touch with the
WPA headquarters in San Francisco regarding a certain project. He
also statedr,a that he is to be married March 27, 1937.
Being no further business, it wcis moved by Cordingly,seconded
by Kilcrease, that the meeting adjourned. Carried, all Councilmen
present voting aye.
