October 19, 1937
A regular meeting of the City Council called to order
by the Aayor. Councilmen present: Cordiggly, Kilcrease, 'Warner,
Bird. Councilman Thatcher absent.
Minutes of the regular meeting of October 5, 1937, read
and approved.
Bills audited by the Finance Committee presented:
General expenditures $ 3,189.21
General payroll 1,310.25
Street Debt. " 305.00
p 4,812.46
Moved by Cordingly', seconded by Kilcrease, that the bills be
allowed and warrants drawn for same. Carried, by the following
vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen,Cardingly, Kilcrease, Warner, Bird.
Nayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent. Councilman Thatcher,.
Mr. Knouse of the Pabco Products Company present and
asked regarding floor covering for the base^ient and requested
that his products be given consideration should the Council
decide to cover the cement basement. Mr. Cunningham introduded
4nd spoke briefly on the advantages of Pabco floor covering.
Mayor Bird referred him to the Casa de Salud officials.
'Mr. George Trey, district manager for the San Diego
to
Consolidated Gas and Electric Company, presented/the City
Council a large electric clock to be placed in either the
Court room or the Council chambers. This was in appraciation
of the cooperation of the City officials and employees.
Mayor Eird responded with a few remarks, thanking Mdr. Trey
and the officials of the Gas company _nc stated that the
clock trrould be placed in the Court room.
✓City Engineer Ireland reported that the State Engineer
would like to have a sodium vapor light installed at First
and rational Avenue. Ivir. Ir-;land stated that there are three
other intersections which arc hazardous and recommended that
sodium vapor 1i its be installed at all four intersections.

/Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that sodium vapor
lights be installed at First Street and National Avenue
intersection; the intersections;.at 14th St and rational
Avenue; l6th Street and rational Avenue and 24th Street
and rational Avenue. Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen Cordingly, Kilcrease, iak= Warner, Bird.
Nayes: Councilmen none.
Absent: Councilman Thatcher.
/ Communication from the National City Chamber of Commerce
commending, the City Council upon the completion of the new
municipal building and pledging their support in i'ublic
affairs, read and ordered filod.
. Request of Mfrs. D.G.Bray for the payment of delinquent
taxes without the 7% interest and the cancellation fee. Moved
by Kilcrease, seconded by Warner, that RESOLUTION NO. 1915
authorizing the payment of same, be adopted. Carried, by the
following vote to -wits
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Warner, Bird.
Nayes: Councilmen none.
Absent: Councilman Thatcher.
"city Clerk instructed to answer the League of Calif orni
Municipalities Municipal Bulletin on Civil Service and
Retirement.
, Communication from John D. Bigger, Administrator of
the Census of Partial Employment, Unemployment and Occupations
asking that a I4"avor's Committee he appointed to cooperate with
the Postmaster and the Administration in helping to conduct
this census. Mayor Bird announced that he would appoint the
committee at a later date.
Communication from the Planning Commission regarding
the petition for the closing of the alley in Block 12, Frank
A. Kimballs Subd., the decision of the Commistion being
favorable subject to easements for utilities. Moved by
Cordingly, seconded by ",ari_or, that the proper authority be
authorized to draw up the papers for the closing of the alley.
Carried, all Councilmen present voting a,-e.

J Communication from the Planning Commission recommending
certain changes in the Building Cod° and the Zoning Ordinance.

Matter laid over for further consideration.
/Communication from Scheuerman and Company submitting a
deed for street purposes, read and referred to the City Engineer.
dMoved by Warner, seconded by Kilcrease, that the Hartforde
Fire_Insurance Policy # 34)17, covering Fire rind theft, and
comprehensive, for a year from uctober 9, 1937, with a loss
payablo Clause to the Security Trust and Savings Bank of San
Liego on the 1936 Ford V8 Pickup truck being used in the Park,
be accepted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
'Moved by Warner, seconded by Kilcrease, that due to the
fact that there wer,; no bids in for the furnishing of electrici
current ard mamaintenance of district for National City Lighting
District No. 1, that the proper authority be authorized to draw
up papers for re -advertising. Carried, all Councilmen present
voting aye.
/RESOLUTION NO. 1916, authorizing the Mayor to sign the
/9/G lease for rental of one Ford V8 Pickup truck from San Diego Motor
Company, read. Moved by ,garner, seconded by Cozdingiy, that the
Resolution be adopted. Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Warner, Bt d.
Nayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent: Councilman Thatcher.
Moved by Warner, seconded by Cordingly, that the following
transfers be authorized:
560.00 from the State Auto Tax to the Genural Fund.
486.00 frohi the Sp. Gas Tax St Imp Fund to the St Imp Fund.
Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Oyes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Warner, gird.
Nayes: Councilmen, none.
Absent: Councilman Thatcher.
46 Street department requested to erect a platform and the
flags for the dedication of the City rail.
y Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Warner, that the City purchase
20 chairs for Council Chambers. Carried, by the following vote to -wit:
Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Warner, Bird.
Nayes: 6ouncilmen, none.
Absent: none.
/Moved by Warner, seconded by Cordingly, that the matter d'
the drapes on the walls of the Council Chamber be referred to the
City Clerk. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.

Employees Assn to sponsor Punch bowl.
Display of City tfirstl documents.
Frame the Incorporation papers for display.

seconded by Warner, that the meeting adjourn. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting eye.
