National `'ity, Californ±a, April 21, 1936
A regular meeting of the City Council called to order
by City Clerk Dale Smith. Nominations were in order for
Mayor of the City Uouncil. Councilman David W. Bird nomin-
ated by Councilman Thatcher, Being no further nominations,
the City Clerk declared Councilman David W Bird, Mayor of
the Council.
Mayor Bird took the chair and proceeded with the
meeting.

be allayed and warrants drawn for same. Carried, by the
following vote to -wit:

Doc Chamberlain n esent egarding the delinquent taxes

on Block 204, `'it y Plat, and requesting the City Council
to accept the payment of the taxes for the years 1930-31-
32 without penalities. After considerable discussion, it
was moved by Cordingly, seconded by Warner, that the request
be granted and the City Attorney be instructed to prepare-ia
Resolution for same. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye.
./ Matter of re -opening of McKinley Avenue from 13th Street
north to 8th Street, referred to the City Clerk and the City
Engineer.
F..James presented a petition fron the property owners
in Lighting District No. 1, asking for release from the 80%
assessment for the maintenance of the ornamental poles. Matter
referred to the City Attorney.
iA petition of the residents of the vicinity of East 12th
and J Streets for fire hydrants, presented. After some
discussion the matter referred to the Finance Committee and the
Fire Chief.
Communication f rom Mrs. G.E.Choate regarding the condition
of certain lots read and referred to Street Commissioner
Cordingly.
Mr. Somerset present regarding the closing of "0" Avenue
from 7th to 8th Street. The City Council instructed him to
submit a verified petition of the property owners on that portion
of -AO" avenue to the Planning Commission, asking for the closing.
Mr. Sommerset thanked the Council for their courtesy and prompt
attention to the condition of certain property within the City.
•'RESOLUTION No. 1816 Authorizing the, cancellation of the
1934 taxes on the THOMAS FICKEL property read. Moved by Cprdingly
seconded by Thatcher, that the resolution be adopted. Carried,
all Councilmen present voting aye.
JBonds of City Clerk Dale Smith and City Treasurer presented.
Moved by Cordingly,s econded by Thatcher, that the bonds be
accepted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
d League of California Bulletin No. 9, read. After some
discussion, it was ordered filed.

'Councilman Thatcher appointed to serve as member of the
Council responsible for handling all League matters.
/Insurance policies on the two Sc,agrave Fieetrucks referred
to the Finance Commission.
Communication from the National City Chamber of Commerce
commending the action of the City Council on The purchase of
equipment for the Police Department to be used as emergency
ambulance, read and ordered filed.
rCommunication from Dr. Don Rolph endorsing the purchase
of an automobile by the City to be used as an ambulance, read
and ordered filed.
Communication from the State Emergency Relief Administration
Director of San Liego County Wm J. Tway, expressing the
appreciation for the service and cooperation accorded the
District office here by the City Council, read and ordered
filed.
1-]loved by Thatcher, seconded by Cordingly, that a refund
of $ 1.51 on current taxes be gfanted to F.H.Graham on Lot
20, Block 4, 10 Acre Lot 14, a Sec. 153, Nat'l Ro. Carried,
all Councilmen present voting aye.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Thatcher, that the Mayor
be authorized to sign the supplemental project agreement with
the WPA for the sidewalks. Carried, all Councilmen present
voting aye.
'Matter of the crossing on First Street referred to the
City Attorney and City Engtneer.
Matter of the conditional exception on petition before
the Planning Commission discussed.
Fire Chief James Bird informed the Council that the
Police, Fire and Street:Departments employees were taking a
course of First Aid Instruction under the WPA.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Thatcher, that the meeting
adiourn.Theinext meeting will be the 6th of May, 1936.
