Regular meeting of the City Council called to order by
the Mayor. Councilmen present, Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher,
Warner, and Bird.

Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the bills be
allowed, and Warrants ordered drawn for same. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting aye.
Application of J. A. Calder for position as Street Supt.
was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Kilcrease, that the
application be filed. Carried.
Application for Pound Master and School Guard, was read
and ordered filed.
a Communication from the War Department regarding dredging
of San Diego Bay, read and ordered filed.

°Communication from Foster & Kleiser Co. regarding sign
at First Street on National Avenue, read and ordered filed.
o Communication from the United States Ager Co. regarding
the installation of a fire plug near their plant, wasread.
Upon recommendation from the Fire Chief, James A. Bird, a
motion was made by Cordingly, seconded by Thatcher, that
the City Council request the Sweetwater Water Corp. to
install a Fire Plug. Carried, all Councilmen present vot-
ing aye.
Application from R. E. Kramer to operate a card table
at 1807 McKinley Avenue, was read and referred to Leslie E.
Knapp, Chief of Police.
The Bond of Floyd Finnerty, Street Supt. was presented.
Moved by Warner, seconded by Thatcher, that the Bond be
,accepted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
Time report of the Fire Dept. for the month of April,
presented and ordered filed.
°Communication from the National City Reporter regarding
bid for legal advertising.
°Communication from the National City News, regarding
bid for legal advertising.
Moved oy Cordingly, seconded by Warner, that the
°Communications of the National City News, and the National
City Reporter be filed, and that a contract be entered into
with the National City News for the printing of legal notices
and legal advertising for the fiscal year 1934-1935, in
accordance with the contract submitted by the National City
News. Carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen
Cordingly, Kilcrease, Thatcher, Warner, 3ndBird. Nays:
Councilmen, none.
°RESOLUTION NO. 1741, authorizing payment of interest
coupons to the amount of $37.50 from Sinking Fund No. 5,
was read. Moved by Thatcher, seconded by Cordingly, that
the Resolution be adopted. Caktied, all Councilmen present
voting aye.
° ORDINANCE NO. 636, an Ordinance amending Ordinance No.
538, relating to the assessment, levy and collection of taxes,

was placed on final passage. Moved by Thatcher, seconded by
Cordingly, that the Ordinance be adopted. Carried by the
following vote: Ayes: Councilmen, Cordingly, Kilcrease,
Thatcher, Warner, and Bird. Nays: Councilmen, none.
Upon recommendation from Leslie E. Knapp, Chief of
Police, it was moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Cordingly,
that Grant C. Raybould be given permission by the City
Council to operate a card game at the "Lark", 1611 National
Avenue. Carried, allCouncilmen present voting aye.
The claim of Chauncey A. Noble was referred to the
City Attorney, J. A. Isaacson.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Warner, that the re-
quest.of J. E. Blackman for reduction in rent on tideland
leases, be denied. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye.
Moved by Kilcrease, seconded by Warner, that the follow-
ing names be approved as active members of the Planning
Commission: L. E. C. Smith, Ed Dimock; W. D. Rolph, Verner
Hawkins, Frederick J. Thatcher, Raymond Hill, Frederick A.
Wilkie, and J. A. Isaacson. Carried, all Councilmen present
voting aye.
The Mayor, David W. Bird, selected the following to
serve as a Board of Examiners and Appeals, under Section
304 of the Uniform Building Code: Lilian J. Rice, Ray Harris,
LL E C. Mith
Raymond Hil`l,/�and Ernest Choate. Moved by Thatcher, seconded
by Cordingly, that the appointments be approved. Carried,
all Councilmen present voting aye.
Mr. Harry Allen was present regarding dogs running loose
in the City.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Thatcher, that the Council
adjourn. Carried.
