National City, California, May 4, 1932.
Regular adjourned meeting of the City Council called to order
by the Mayor. Councilmen present- Dawson, Cordingly, Wade, Waddell,
and Requa.
Minutes of regular meeting April 19, 1932, and May 3, 1932,
read and approved.

Moved by Dawson, seconded by Waddell,that the bills be allowed and
Warrants ordered drawn for the same. Carried, all Councilmen present
voting aye.
.Representatives of the Shell 011 Company were present asking
permission to have the ornamental light -post; at National Avenue and
9th Street moved ten feet North. Moved by Waddell, seconded by
Wade, that the request be granted. Carried.

-Mrs. Spafford and Lars. Hallett, members of the Library Board,
were present urging that they have Charge of the rest room
adjoining the Library. Moved by Dawson, seconded by Waddell,that
the request be granted and key be furnished them to be had by
applying at Library. Carried.
.Mx. -Molitor was present regarding walkathon Marathon. Was
informed that matter would be taken up under unfinished business.
,Communication from R. Z. Wade, requesting three days labor
per week on the Street Department, was read and ordered filed.
.Petition of the Shell 0i1 Company accompanied by a deposit
of $10.00 to remove two trees at the Southwest corner of 9th
and National Avenue was read. Moved by Cordingly,,seconded by
Waddell,that'the petition be granted. Carried.
,Petition of Joe A. Eller for position of Street Superintendent
was read and ordered filed.
,Petition of E. N. Clark for position of City Attorney was
read and ordered filed.
-Communication from the League of County Municipalities
stating that the meeting would be held at Escondido, Friday
May 6, 1932,was read and ordered filed.
-Petition of D. C. Cartwright and George Styliano for the
exclusive rights to collect and haul garbage was read. Moved
by Waddell, seconded by Cordingly that the Petition be tabled.and filed
Carried.
,The Fire Committee reported they had received permission from
the owner of building on Lots 14, 15, and 16 Block 278 to have
same removed. Moved by Dawson, seconded by Cordingly, that it
be referred to the Street Department to have same removed. Carried.
.Street Committee requested further time regarding matter of
drainage at 18th Street and N Avenue.
.Moved by Waddell, seonded by Wade, that the petition of Mr.
Molitor to conduct a Walkathon Marathon be denied. Carried.
✓RESOLUTION NO. 1675, authorizing payment of bonded indebtedness
due May 1, 1932, amounting to $112.50 was -read. Moved by Cordingly
seconded by Wade, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting aye.

Moved by Wade, seconded by Waddell, that the office of
Street Superintendent be declared vacant. Carried.
,Moved by Wade, seconded by Waddell, that Mr. Lewis R.
Aldrich be appointed Superintendent of Streets. Carried.
/ORDINANCE NO. , anciOrdinance declaring weeds, etc., to
their
be a public nuisance and providing for *ha removal,was read.
Moved by Waddell, seconded by Dawson, that it be introduced and
laid over, under the rules, and according to law. Carried.
,Fire Chief Bird was present regarding convention to be
held in San Diego and requesting that the City provide $100.00
for advertising. Moved by Dawson, seconded by Waddell, that
the sum of $100.00 for advertising in the San Diego County
Fireman's Association program be appropriated. Carried by the
following vote: Ayes, Councilmen, Dawson, Waddell, and Requa.
Nayes, Councilmen, Cordingly and Wade.
,Moved by Waddell, seconded by Cordingly, that the number
of instructors be reduced from twenty to two, to take effect May
20, 1932, at the dance hall operated by Paul Ariola. Carried: _
.Moved by -Dawson; seconded by Cordingly, that Raymond Hill,
Superintendent of Streets, be granted two weeks vacation with pay.
Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
,Moved by Waddell, seconded by Wade, that the President of
the Council appoint a Committee to contact the School Board
regarding play grounds. The President appointed Councilman
Dawson.
Moved by Waddell, seconded by Cordingly, that the Council];
adjourn. Carried.
