Regular meeting of the City Council called to order by the
Mayor. Councilmen present- Bird, Cordingly, Murray, Waddell and
Requa.
Minutes of regular meeting June 16, 1931,and special
meeting June 30, 1931, read and approved.

Communication from H. E. Garrity regarding refund of $150.00
bail money was read. Moved by Murray, seconded by Bird that
the matter be referred to the City Attorney.
•Cors.:unication from the Automobile Club of Southern California
regarding change in speed limit signs effective August
14, 1931, was read. Moved by '':addell, seconded by Murray
that it be referred to the Chief of Police to report on at
the next meeting. Carried.
-Communication from the State Association of California
Architects was read and ordered filed.
Petition of Piggly Wiggly, Inc., to install new
red side -walk in front of building at 820 National Avenue was
read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Uaddell that the peition
be granted, work to be done under the supervision of the
Superintendent of Streets. Carried.
Petition of property owners to pave portions of L Avenue
by private contract was read. Lioved by Cordingly, seconded
by Bird that the peition be granted. -Tarried.
,Report of the City Judge for the month of June, 1931\
was read and ordered filed.
-Annual report of the Library, year ending June 30, 1931
read and ordered filed.
.Communication from the City Attorney regarding tide land
lease of J. E. Blackman was read. Lioved by Cordingly, seconded
by Murray that the City Clerk notify J. E. Blackman
Carried, all Councilmen present

and the Blackman Terminals, Incorporated, that unless rental
on tide -land lease is paid within thirty days the City Council
will take action to declare forfeiture of said lease. Carried.
,Communication from the City Attorney regarding ordinance
for the eradication of weeds and rubbish was read and ordered
filed.
The matter of weed Ordinance was laid over till the next
meeting.
Bond of R. H. Jones Company, side -walk builders, was
presented. Moved by Bird, seconded by Murray, that the bond
be approved, accepted and ordered filed. Carried.
v ,RESOLUTION NO. 1644, accepting deed of the Metropolitan
Securities Company for land for street purposes was read.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the Resolution be
adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
,,,RESOLUTION NO. 1645, accepting deed of Terrance Orrell and
wife for land for street purposes was read. Moved by Murray,
seconded by Bird that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting aye.
. The City Attorney filed transcript of the proceedings
before the Division of Water Resources together with bill for
same amounting to .46.40, also communication from Attorney
Cosgrove requesting an additional fee of $750.00. The sane
was referred to the dater Committee.
,Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Murray that the petition
for a light at 18th Street and C Avenue be denied. Carried.
Moved by Murray, seconded by Waddell that the matter
of sale of horses be referred to the Street Committee to report
on at the next meeting.
.Attorney given further time on the opening of Seventh Avenue.
•The Mayor appointed the following Councilmen as members
of the Committee, Street Committee, Councilman Bird, Fire
Committee Councilmen Murray.
Councilmen Murray stated that the Fire Department was
in need of 1,000 feet of new hose, same would cost between
d„900.00 and 61,000.00, also an extra man for relief duty at
fire Station for two months at a salary of $125.00 per month

to provide for vacations for the present firemen. Moved by
Murray, seconded by Bird, that a relief Fireman be employed
for a period of two months beginning August 1, 1931 at a salary
of $125.00 per month. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye.
•tloved by Murray, seconded by vvaddell, that the Street
Department be instructed to grade and pave with Portland Cement
Concrete the East side of one-half a Block of National Avenue
South from 13th Street. Carried, all Councilmen present voting
aye.
_:Movedoby_Bird, seconded by Waddell, that the City
Engineer be instructed to prepare plans and specifications
for paving portions of Palm Avenue from Division to 4th
Street with Asphaltic Concrete pavement and Portland Cement
Concrete. Carried.
Moved by Murray, seconded by Bird, that the City Engineer
prepare plans and estimate of cost for buildings to house
City machinery. Carried.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Murray,that the City Attorney
and City Engineer prepare an ordinance requiring property
owners to nay ?3.00 for sewer connections which include
inspection and installation of saddle joint. Carried.
The Building Ordinance was laid over.
Moved by Waddell, seconded by Murray that the Council
adjourn till Thursday July 9, 1931 at 7:30 o'clock p. m.
Carried.
