Councilmen present- Bird, Cordingly, Waddell, and Re qua. Minutes of regular meeting of May 19, 1931 read and approved. The following bills, audited by the Finance Committee, presented: G. W. Carried, 182. Communication from the Civic Chorus, expressing their appreciation for the support given by the City Council was read and ordered filed. Communication from the National School District re- garding the appointment of a committee to act toward the organization of a summer recreation center and stating that they had appointed a member And requesting the City Council to appoint one member,was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the IM9ayor appoint one member of the Council to act on this committee. Carried. The Mayor appointed Councilman Bird. Communication from the National City Parent Teacherts Association expressing their sympathy for the movement toward the organization of a summer recreation center was read and ordered filed. Communication from Bauersfeld-Peterson Co., regarding sale of tractor and light blade grading equipment was read and ordered filed. Petition of Carl Hansen to install gasoline storage tank in parking at 339 West 13th Street was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordinglv that the petition be granted, work to be done under the supervision of the Fire Chief. Carried. Communication from the National City Library Board stating that the term of Dr. Theo. Johnson expires June 30, 1931, and requesting his re -appointment was read. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird that Dr. Theo: Johnson be appointed a member of the Library Board effective July 1, 1931. Carried. Communication from Fire Chief Bird, regarding installation of fire hydrant at 25th Street and F Avenue, recommending the installation of a fire hydrant at 24th Street and F Avenue and recommending that the present four inch hydrant located at loth Street and National Avenue be transferred to 24th Street and F Avenue and a new six inch hydrant be installed at loth Street and National Avenue. 183. Moved by Bird, seconded by Waddell, that the Fire hydrant at loth Street and National Avenue be moved to 24th Street and F Avenue and a six inch fire hydrant be installed at loth Street and National Avenue. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. Communication from Fire Chief Bird requesting the purchase of 1,000 pounds of Foam Powder for use in new Fire Apparatus was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the Fire Chief be instructed to purchase 1,000 pounds of Foam Powder. Carried, all Councilmen present voting Aye. Petition of citizens for a Street Light at 18th Street and C Avenue was read and referred to the Fire Chief to report on at next meeting showing present location of lights in that vicinity. The following bids for the paving of portions of L Avenue and 18th Street were opened, examined and publicly declared and referred to the City Engineer: R. E. The police committee recommended the change of Pool License at 1820-6th Avenue, Refugio Herranda to the name of Angel Cases. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Cordingly that the Pool Hall license at 1820-6th Avenue be transferred to Angel Casas. Carried. The City Clerk was instructed to notify Pair. and Mrs. K. E. Payne that their request for permission to operate was not granted dancing two nights weekly/stating that an ordinance prohibits dancing after 12:00 o'clock midnight. Report of the City Engineer on bids for the paving of L Avenue and 18th Street with Portland Cement Concrete pavement recommending that all bids be rejected was read and ordered filed. ,Report_of the/City P.hgineet on bids for the paving of portions of L Avenue and 18th Street with Aspahltic Concrete recommending the acceptance of the bid of Griffith Company was read and ordered filed. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that all bids for the paving of portions of L Avenue and 18th Street with Cement concrete be rejected. Carried. v •RESOLUTION OF AWARD NO. 1638, awarding contract to Griffith Company for paving portions of L Avenue and 18th Street with Asphaltic Concrete was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. ✓ORDINANCE NO. , regarding the issuance of building permits, etc. was laid over. Bond of Warren and Edmister side -walk builders was presented. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the bond be approved, accepted and ordered filed. Carried. Bond of Lloyd Murray,Master plumber was presented. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the bond be approved, accepted and ordered filed. Carried. 185. -.RESOLUTION OF INTENTION NO. 1639, National City Lighting District No. 1, was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the resolution be adopted. Carried,all Councilmen present voting aye. • The matter of opening 7th Avenue was laid over. Moved by Bird, seconded by Waddell that the City Council extend a vote of thanks to Loma Lodge No. 159 K of P for the donation of benches, etc. for use in the City Park. Carried. It has b@en;repotted the Water Hearing was set for June 15, 1931. City Attorney reported that he had written the Vest Coast Construction Company regarding repair to pavement on East 8th Street and had been informed that they had started repairing same. City Attorney reported that he had been informed by officials of the telephone company that they would present a franchise within a short time. The matter of Sewer connections was laid over till next meeting. The Street Superintendent was instructed to put up a no-tresspassing sign at entrance to the wharf. Moved by Waddell, that John Gardner be appointed a member of the City Council. The Mayor called Councilman Bird to the chair and seconded the motion. Motion was lost. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird that Lewis Aldrich be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion lost.
