National City, California, June 9, 1931.
Regular adjourned meeting of the City Council called
to order by the Mayor. Councilmen present- Bird, Cordingly,
Waddell and Requa.
.Bond of Joe A. Eller, Sidewalk Builder, was presented.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the Bond be approved
accepted and ordered filed. Carried.
•The American Legion requested permission to stretch
banners :across National Avenue and 18th Street and Highland
Avenue at l8th Street. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly
that the request be granted. Carried.
.The Mayor reported that there were a number of men
in National City in need of work, claiming they had no food
for their families. Matter was referred to J. M. Dawson
Chairman Welfare Commission.
•Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the
City Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary papers
calling a Special Election. Motion lost.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the
Council adjourn. Motion lost.
'The Mayor called Councilman Cordingly to the 'chair.
Moved by Requa, seconded by Waddell, that Alexander Kilcrease
be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion lost.
•Moved by Requa, seconded by Waddell, that R. T.
Lindholm be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion lost.
•Moved by Requa, seconded by Waddell that F. L. Wade
be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion lost.
,Moved by Requa, seconded by Waddell, that Coburn
Maddox be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion lost.

.Communication from the President of the La Fiesta de
Los Angeles celebration was read and ordered filed.
.Communication from the Casa de Salud governing board
giving a brief report of their activities and asking that a
telephone be installed, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded
by Waddell that the City have a telephone installed at 1833
7th Avenue for the use of Casa De Salud. Carried,all Councilmen
present voting aye.
.Petition of A. A. Jerauld to remove one tree at 421
National Avenue was read. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird
that the petition be granted. Carried.
,Resignation of J. B. Waddell as Street Commissioner

effective at once was read. LIoved by Waddell, seconded by
Cordingly that the resignation be accepted. Carried.
+Report of the Fire Chief showing lights located in the
vicinity of 18th Street and C Avenue, showing that there
is one located at D Avenue and 18th Street was read and laid
over till the next meeting.
RESOLUTION NO. 1640, authorizing the cancellation of
Warrant No. 16286,issued April 21, 1931,amounting to 5275.00,
payable to the Chemical Equipment Corporation was read.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird that the Resolution be
adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
+Building Ordinance was laid over.
•RESOLUTION NO. 1641, appointing the time and place for
hearing protest s,National City Lighting District No. 1, was read.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the Resolution be
adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
,The matter of opening 7th Avenue was laid over.
eReport of the meeting,National City Recreation Committee_,
held June llth, 1931 outlining plans for formation of same,
stated it was agreed that the National City Council and
Elementary School should share equally the expenditures of
money for carrying out a supervised play program_ for the
vacation period, while the Sweetwater Union High School would
supply the necessary equipment was read.
•Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the City
furnish for the Park Fund phe sum of $500.00 for the installation
of lights for night indoor baseball and toilets. Carried all
Councilmen present voting aye.
.Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Waddell that the City
Council agree to expend a sum not to exceed $312.50 in payment
of salary -of the supervisor of playgrounds. Carried, all
Councilmen present voting aye.
.Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the sum of
$800.00 be transferred from thn General Fund to the Park
Maintenance and Improvement Fund and the sum of 62,000.00 be
transferred from the general Fund to the Police Fund and that

the proper officers make the necessary entries upon their records.
Carried.
/The City Attorney reported that a hearing was held Monday
before the State Water Commission and that the hearing had been
continued to a later date, stated that the district informed the
Commission that they had no desire to obstruct the development
of Water but did object to its being diverted to other places
than the present district.
,The City Attorney submitted Correspondence relative to the
Water Hearing for filing, to be with -drawn at any time.
•Moved by Bird, seconded by Waddell that Alex Murray be
appointed a member of the City Council. Carried all Councilmen
present voting aye. Mr. hurray was sworn in.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Waddell that the Council adjourn.
Carried.
