Regular meeting of the City Council called to order by the
Mayor. Councilmen present- Bird, Cordingly, Waddell, and Requa.
Councilman Coburn absent.

Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the bills be
allowed and warrants ordered drawn for the same. Carried,
all Councilmen present voting aye.
• Communication from Senator Harper acknowledging receipt
of letter opposing certain bills and approving Senate Bill
No. 283, was read and ordered filed.
•Communication from assemblyman Arthur H6nnold enclosing
copy of Senate Bill No. 577 and asking if the Council had
objections to same was presented. Moved by Bird, seconded
by Cordingly that the City Council request representatives
from this district to oppose the passage of Senate Bill
No. 577. Carried.
•Communication from the Library Board regarding repairs
for the library was read and referred to the Superintendent
of Streets.
Communication from the Police Court requesting copies
of all Penal Ordinances now in force was read and ordered
filed.
•The Pythian Sisters requested permission to hold a
children's parade, Saturday May 9th at12:30 o'clock p. m.
starting at the Library on National Avenue, to 7th St.,
East on 7th St. to A Avenue to carnival ground. Moved
by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the request be granted.
Carried.
Report of the Recorder for the month of April, 1931,
presented and ordered filed.
•The committee on lights for indoor baseball stated
that it would cost approximately $350.00 for installation
of same. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the
sum of $350.00 be transferred from the general fund to the
Park Maintenance and Improvement Fund to pay for the installation
of the lights for indoor baseball. The motion was lost by
the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Bird and Cordingly,
Nayes, Councilmen Waddell and Requa.
•The City Clerk was instructed to write the Chemical

Equipment Corporation, requesting that bond for $1,000.00
guaranteeing the installation of Liquid Chlorinator as set
out in contract dated July 5, 1930, be filed with the City
Council.
.The City Clerk was instructed to answer communication
from the California Real,Estate Association, stating action
taken at meeting of April 21, 1931.
,Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the City
Engineer be instructed to secure bids for paving the NLY e
of the intersection of 8th Street and Sanitarium Avenue.
Carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1632, approving and adopting plans and
specifications for paving portions of L AVENUE and 18th St.,
with Portland Cement Concrete Paving was read. Moved by
Cordingly seconded by Bird that the resolution be adopted.
Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
RESOLUTION NO.1633, directing the City Clerk to advertise
for bids for paving portions of 18th Street and L AVENUE with
Concrete paving was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cord-
inly that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen
present voting aye.
RESOLUTION No. 1634, approving and adopting plans and
specifications for paving portions of L AVENUE and 18th Street
with Asphaltic Concrete was read., Moved by Bird, seconded
by Cordingly that the Resolution be adopted. Carried all
Councilmen present voting aye.
RESOLUTION NO. 1635, directing the City Clerk to advertise
for bids for paving portions of L AVENUE and 18th Street was
read. Moved by Dord4,ngly;>>sedonded by Bird that the Resolution
be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
,_RESOLUTION NO. 1636, authorizing payment of bonded
indebtedness due May 1, 1931 amounting to $150.00 was read.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Waddell that the Resolution
be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.

✓ ORDINANCE NO.
and ordinance regulating the construction,
etc., of buildings, providing for the issuance of building permits,
and repealing certain ordinances was read. Moved by Waddell,
seconded by Bird, that it be introduced and laid over under the
rules and according to law. Carried.
.Moved by Waddell that the office of Street Superintendent
be declared vacant effective June 1, 1931. Receivfing no
second, the Mayor requ9sted Councilman Bird to take the chair
and seconded the motion. Motion lost by the following vote:
Nayes, Councilmen Cordingly and Bird, Ayes, Councilmen Requa
and Waddell. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the
Council be re -organized. Motion lost.
.The matter of broken pavement on East 8th Street caused
by house moving referred to the City Attorney.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Waddell that the Council adjourn.
Carried.
