Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird that the resignation .Communication of Mr . and Mrs. K. mission to operate dancing two nights be accepted. Carried. E. Payne, requesting per - weekly, Saturday and Sunday was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Waddell that it be referred to the Police Department. Carried. 179. ,Communication from Loma Lodge No. 159, K. of P. expressing their appreciation for courtesies extended for the Carnival was read and ordered filed. ,Communication from the National School District regarding establishment of a summer recreation center in National City was read. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird that the City Council cooperate% with the School Board toward the formation of a recreation center provided it is not too expensive. Carried. Communication from Angel Casas requesting change in name of Pool Hall license at 1820 6th Avenue was read. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird that it be referred to the Police Department. Carried. .Petition of property owners for Fire Hydrant at 25th Street and F Avenue was read and referred to the Fire Chief. ,Communication from the Chemical Equipment Corporation regarding installation of liquid chlorinator was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Waddell, that the City Clerk be instructed to write the Chemical Equipment Corporation stating that they would accept the proposition submitted providing it was acceptable after thirty days trial. Carried. .Report of the Street Superintendent giving an estimate of cost for repair of library was read. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird, that the repairs to the Library be made under the direction of the Street Superintendent. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. . The City Attorney was given further time regarding repairs to pavement on East 8th Street. . The Health Department has received complaints of water standing East of National Avenuebbetween 16th and 18th Streets. The Street Superintendent was instructed to pump same. /ORDINANCE NO. , regulating the • issuance of building permits, etc., was laid over. ,Bond of E. L. Archambeau, master plumber was presented. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the bond be approved, accepted, and ordered filed. Carried. 180. .Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly, that Lewis R. Aldrich be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion Lost. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird that J. M. Dawson be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion Lost. ,Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly, that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary papers calling a Special Election. Motion Lost. ,Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird that John. W. Gardner be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion Lost. ,Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that Alex Murray be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion Lost. ,Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird that D. L. Murray be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion Lost. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird, that A. J. Addis be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion Lost. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Bird, that H. E. Rice be appointed a member of the City Council. Motion Lost. 'RESOLUTION NO. 1637, appointing a Deputy Assessor was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Bird, Cordingly, Requa. Nays, Councilman Waddell. ,The Fire Chief reported that building at 2200-8th Avenue was in dangerous condition and wished the Council would investigate same. He also reported Foam Powder was needed for the new Fire Equipment, at a cost of approximately $175.00. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the Council adjourn.
