Councilmen present, Bird, Cordingly, Murray, Waddell, and Requa. Minutes of the regular meeting of November 3, 1931, read and approved. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. .Mr. E. P. Sample presented an application of Paul Arriola accompanied by a deposit of $75.00 for permit to conduct dances at No. 1708 Seventh Avenue, also petition of citizens requesting that the City Council grant same,was read and referred to the Chief of Police. •Petition of property owners requesting that K Avenue from 18th Street to 24th Street be made a sixty foot street was read. Also petition requesting that proceedings be started for the grading and curbing of K Avenue between 18th and 20th Streets was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Murray that the City 229. Attorney prepare the necessary papers to narrow K Avenue from 18th Street to 24th Street to sixty feet. Carried. • Communication from L. S. Brown expressing appreciation for cooperation in lighting ball ground was read and ordered filed. • The City Attorney's report in writing stating that in his opinion the claim for refund of taxes to Dewey Frederick & McCormi4,Inc., could not be allowed, was read and ordered filed. Moved by Bird, seconded by Murray,that a copy of the opinion be mailed to the Attorney for Dewey Frederick & McCormick, Inc. Carried. -The Attorney reported that in his opinion the City could not -legally take advertising from Robert H. Scholar Post 2111. .Moved by Murray, seconded by Waddell, that the City purchase advertising from the RobertH. Scholar Post 2111, for one year at $35.00. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. • Report of Chief of Police Gardner recommending that license be granted to Paul Arriola and that he be allowed twenty instructors was read and ordered filed. • Moved by Waddell, seconded by Murray, that a dance hall license be granted to Paul Arriola under the name of "The Rizal" and permit to employ twenty instructors be granted. Carried. Street Committee given further time regarding light at 2nd Avenue and 18th Street. ,Street Committee requested further time regarding the closing of E Avenue R. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. •Moved by Murray, seconded by Cordingly, that the Street Superintendent be instructed to secure prices and purchase a carload of cement at best figures obtainable. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. .Councilman Murray reported that repairs were needed at the Fire Hall. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Murray that repairs to the Fire Hall tot to emceed $500.00 be made. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye.
