Councilmen present- Bird, Coburn, Cordingly, Waddell, Requa. Minutes of regular meeting of July 1, 1930 and of regular adjourned meetings of July 2, 1930 and July 5, 1930, read and approved. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. .Mr. Chas. Stein was present regarding claim of the Telephone Company for clearing wires when moving a house. Same was re- ferred to the City Attorney. .Communication from Annie & J. J. Metcalf regarding ob- struction in Alley in Homeland Park was read and referred to the Superintendent of Streets with power to act. ,Communication from citizens complaining of odorswhich come from Industries located near 25th Street, was read. Same was referred to the Health Department. 96. ,It now being the time set for hearing in the matter of Assessment Roll for Lighting District No. 1, same was taken up and concluded. RESOLUTION NO. 1574, Confirming and adopting Assessment for Lighting District No. 1, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. RESOLUTION NO. 1575, Ordering improvement for National City Lighting District No. 1, was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Coburn, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Council- men present voting aye. 'Communication from Union 0i1 Company of California re- questing permission to install storage tanks in the parking in front of the Sly 65 ft. of Sly 100.2 ft. of E 290 ft. of Ef of 10 Acre Lot 12, * Sec. 153, was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Coburn, that the request be granted provided owners of the property fiI)written request for same. Carried. .Communication from American Legion, Kenneth L. Blanchard Post No. 255, petitioning for the concession of the program for opening of the swimming pool in the city park, was read and laid over. /The hour of 8:15 o'clock P.M. having arrived, the Mayor of the City stated it was the time and place for hearing protests against the improvement of L Avenue and 24th Street and asked if any one present desired to protest against the proposed improvement. The City Clerk read protest of John W. Trout, et al, and same was referred to the City Engineer for checking and his report. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly, that the hearing be continued to Aug. 5, 1930, at 8:10 o'clock P.M. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. .Moved by Coburn, seconded by Cordingly, that the request of the American Legion for concession of the program at opening of the swimming pool be granted. Carried. 'Communication from D. E. Lozier regarding rental of the premises at Nos. 28 and 32 W. 8th Street, National City, was 97. read and ordered filed. .Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly, that the Recorder's court be moved up -stairs over the City Hall. Motion was lost. .Moved by Waddell, seconded by Coburn, that the Recorderts court be moved to Lot 1, Block 9, at No. 28 W. 8th Street, City, at a rental of $30.00 per month. Carried, by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Coburn, Waddell, Requa. Nays: Councilmen Bird, Cordingly. ,Moved by Waddell, seconded by Coburn, that the Police Headquarters be moved to Lot 1, Block 9, No. 32 W. 8th Street, City, at a rental of $20.00 per month. Carried, by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Coburn, Waddell, Requa. Nays: Councilmen Bird, Cordingly. ,RESOLUTION NO. 1576, Appointing Chauncey A. Noble Traffic Officer at a salary of $200.00 per month, effective Aug. 1, 1930, was read. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Coburn, that the Reso- lution be adopted. Carried, by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Bird, Coburn, Waddell, Requa. Nay: Councilman Cordingly. :RESOLUTION NO. 1577, Appointing Ira F. Harbison and Robt. A. Preston Deputy Policemen at a salary of $125.00 per month eac4,effective Aug. 1, 1930, was read. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Coburn, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Bird, Coburn, Waddell, Roque. Nay: Councilman Cordingly. .Communication from Chief of Police Gardner recommending installation of a -boulevard stop at 8th Street and Palm Avenue, stop to be located on Palm Avenue, was read. .Moved by Waddell, seconded by Cordingly, that the City Attorney be instructed to amend ordinance creating boulevard stop on Palm Avenue at E. 8th Street. Carried. .Application of Joseph A. Calder for position as swimming pool engineer was read and ordered filed. .Reports of the City Clerk and City Treasurer for quarter ending June 30, 1930, were presented and ordered filed. 98. ,Annual report of the City Clerk for year ending June 30, 1930, presented. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Coburn, that the City Clerk be instructed to publish annual report. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. .Report of the Librarian for year ending June 30, 1930, presented and ordered filed. ,Petition for hydrant at 8th Street and R Avenue was laid over. ,Petition for street lights on Division Street was laid over. RESOLUTION NO. 1578, Ordering final payment to Daley Corp- oration for paving portions of D Avenue, 16th Street and L Avenue, amounting to $2,881.46, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Coburn, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. ;ORDINANCE NO. 603, Repealing Ordinance No. 574 and amending Section 7 of Ordinance No. 540, Fixing salary of City Attorney at $125.00 per month, was placed on final passage, and on motion by Bird, seconded by Cordingly, same adopted, all Councilmen present voting aye. RESOLUTION NO. 1579, Ordering and directing compromise of litigation for certain taxes, was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Coburn, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Bird, Coburn, Waddell, Requa. Nay: Councilman Cordingly. .Moved by Waddell, seconded by Cordingly, that the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for a general audit as set forth in notice. Carried.
