Councilmen present_ Bird, Coburn, Cordingly, Waddell and Requa. Minutes of meeting of April 21, 1930, read, corrected and approved. •The Mayor then announced the Standing Committees as follows: Finance Committee: Councilmen Bird, Cordingly and Waddell; Streets and Public Property: Councilman Waddell; Park Committee: Councilman Cordingly; Fire Department Committee; Councilman Coburn; Building & Electrical Inspection: Councilman Bird; Police Committee Councilman Waddell; Health Committee: Councilmen Coburn and Cord_ ingly. .The Mayor recommended the appointment of J. C. Snook as member of the Planning Commission. Moved by Waddell, seconded by Coburn, that the City Council confirm the appointment of Snook as member of the Planning Commission. Carried. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. •Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly, that peddlers license No. 491 issued to C. Fred Lee be transferred to E. Rose. Carried. • Communication from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of San Francisco regarding "clean-up" campaign was read and ordered filed. ,Communication from Willis P. Turner regarding building on Lot 23, Block 79, was read and ordered filed. • Communication from Sweetwater Union High School requesting that a portion of E Avenue be closed between 16th and 18th Streets, was read and referred to the Street committee to report on at next meeting. .Communication from State Compensation Insurance Fund regarding renewal of policy was read and ordered filed. .Communication from Southern California Automobile Club enclosing copy of traffic ordinance, was read and referred to the Police Department. • Petition of H. P. Requa, accompanied by deposit of $5.00 to remove 1 tree at 626 E. 1st Street, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the petition be granted. Carried. 76. .Communication from H. D. Bailen requesting refund of $$5.00 deposit for removal of tree at 6th Street and I Avenue, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Coburn, that the pboper officers draw a warrant in favor of H. D. Sullen on General Fund for $5.00. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. •Petition of property owners for the installation of a fire hydrant at 27th Street and D Avenue, was read and referred to the Fire Department. Communication from Kenneth L. Blanchard Post, American Legion, requesting that at least 80% of labor hired on public contracts should be American labor, was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Coburn, that the Council approve the recommendation of the Kenneth L. Blanchard Post. Carried. 'Petition of William E. Riley to grade the Alley from 15th to 16th Streets between 1st and 2nd Avenues, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the petition be granted, work to be done under the supervision of the Street Superintendent and the City Engineer. Carried. .Report of the Recorder for month of April, 1930, read and ordered filed. •Communication of L. A. Weisser preferring charges against the Recorder, filed Feb. 18, 1930, was taken up. Same was referred to the Police Committee and laid over to next meeting. .Communication from Fire Marshal, filed Apr. 1, 1930, regard- ing building up of the Fire Department, was read and referred to the Fire Committee. 'RESOLUTION NO. 1550, Adthorizing payment of bonded indebted- ness due May 1, 1930, amounting to $187.50, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Councilmen present voting aye. .The City Clerk was instructed to a rite Fire Chief Almgren of San Diego expressing appreciation of work at fire on Apr. 19, 1930.
