Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees called to order
by the President. Trustees present- Bird, Cordingly, Fritz,
Murray, Addis.
Minutes of regular meeting of July 16, 1929, read and
approved.

Fritz, that the bills be allowed
and warrants ordered drawn for the same. Carried, all Trustees
present voting aye.
•Mr. Roque, representing the Chamber of Commerce, was
present requesting aid for booth at the County Fair, stating that
same would cost $250.00. Moved by Bird, seconded by Murray, that
the National City Chamber of Commerce be given not to exceed
10.
$250.00 for booth at the County Fair. Carried, all Trustees
present voting aye.
,Mr. L. H. Cody presented proposal contract for
garbage collection in the City of National City. Same was filed.
.Communication from California League of Municipalities
regarding insurance on automobiles owned or used by the City
was read and referred to the City Attorney.
.The hour of eight o'clpck P. M. having arrived, the
President of the Board of Trustees stated that it was the time
and place for hearing protests against the improvement of por-
tions of 1st Street and L Avenue, as shown in Resolution of
Intention No. 1457, and asked if any one present desired to
protest against the proposed improvement. The City Clerk read
protests of C. R. Linn, et al, and W. A. Cooper, filed Aug. 6,
1929. Report of the City Engineer on protests showing that 46.5%
of the frontage was represented, was read and ordered filed.
After considerable discussion, it was moved by Bird, seconded'by
Cordingly, that the hearing be continued to Aug. 20, 1929, at
eight o'clock P.M. Carried.
.Communication from State Compensation Insurance Fund
stating that an increase of 4.1% in all rates would be effective
Aug. 13, 1929, was read and ordered filed.
•Communication from Cecelia M. Graham regarding health
conditions in the City, was read. Moved by Murray, seconded by
Bird, that same be referred to the Health Officer, Dr. Lesem.
Carried.
.Communication from J. B. Jaqua regarding fire
apparatus, etc., was read and ordered filed.
.Communication from Board of Trustees of the Public
Library fequesting an increase of 4/ in tax levy was read and
laid over.
'Communication from National City Chamber of Commerce
requesting an appropriation of 5$ was read and laid over.
-Communication from James A. Bird, submitting budget
for the Fire Department of $9,087.00 was read and laid over.

.Communication from City Irlarshal Gardner submitting
estimate of $16,987.00 as Midget for the Police Department,
was read and laid over.
Report of the Street Superintendent regarding use
of National City wharf was read and ordered filed.
.Report of the Recorder for month of July, 1929,
was read and ordered filed.
•The City Attorney reported that he had secured a
Deed from E. K. Hong for land for street purposes on L Avenue.
;RESOLUTION NO. 1460, Accepting Deed of E. K. Hong
for land for street purposes on L Avenue, was read. Moved by
Murray, seconded by Fritz, that the Resolution be adopted.
Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.
rEstitate of City Engineer of work completed to date
from July 2, 1929, by T. B. Penick & Sons in paving portions of
P Avenue between 4th and 18th Streets, was read and ordered filed.
RESOLUTION NO. 1461, Authorising payment of-75%_of
work completed on P Avenue by T. B. Penick & Sons, amounting to
$688.03, was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Murray, that the
Resolution be adopted. Carried, by the following vote: Ayes,
Trustees Bird, Fritz, Murray, Addis. Nay, Trustee Cordingly.

.RESOLUTION NO. 1462, Accepting all of work completed
by T. B. Penick & Sons in paving portions of P Avenue between
4th and 18th Streets, was read. Moved by Fritz, seconded by
Bird, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Trustees
present voting aye.
.RESOLUTION NO. 1463', Authorizing payment of bonded
indebtedness due Aug. 15, 1929, amounting to '3500.00 was read.
Moved by Fritz, seconded by Murray, that the Resolution be adopted.
Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.
.RESOLUTION NO. 1464, Directing notice inviting sealed
proposals, National City Lighting District No. 1, was read.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Murray, that the Resolution be adopted.
Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.

,Moved by Murray, seconded by Bird, that the City
Clerk be instructed to purchase from the Tax Factors, Inc.
a set of maps of National City East of National Avenue, at
$1.50 per sheet. Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.
*Moved by Bird, seconded by Fritz, that Ira Harbison
be employed by the City Marshal to assist in examining auto-
mobile drivers not to exceed 30 days at a salary of $5.00 per
day. Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.
,The President of the Board stated there was a
vacancy in the Planning Commission and recommended the appoint-
ment of Mr. C. T. Short. Moved by Murray, seconded by Bird,
that Mr. C. T. Short be appointed member of the National City
Planning Commission. Carried.
,The President of the Board stated that Monday, Aug.
12, 1929, at 10 o'clock A.M. the Board of Trustees would meet
to sit as a Board of Equalization.
Moved by Fritz, seconded by Bird, that the Board
adjourn. Carried.
