Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees called to order
by the President. Trustees present- Addis, Cordingly, Fritz,
Murray. Trustee Bird late.
Minutes of regular adjourned meeting of Jan. 18, 1928,
and of special meeting of Jan. 20, 1928, read and approved.
The following bills, audited by a majority of the Finance

present voting aye.
.Mr. L. Escota was present requesting permission to top
tree at 3rd Avenue and 14th Street. Moved by Addis seconded by
Fritz, that the request be granted. Carried.
• Communication from H. W. Cottrell requesting refund of
$5.00 deposited for removal of tree was read and referred to the
Street Department.
. Communication from the Sweetwater Water Corporation
expressing their approval of the proposed ordinance regulating
the taking of water from fire hydrants was read and ordered filed.
• Communication from Griffith Company regarding assessments
for the improvement of 6th Street, A and K Avenues was read and
-ordered filed.
.Communication from Sutherland Stage Company regarding
parking space on National Avenue at 1st Street was read and referred
to the Superintendent of Streets.
• Communication from Mrs. Alice Smith Blakely regarding
condition of the La Vista Cemetery was -read and referred to the
Superintendent of Streets.
,Petition of S. H. Rather accompanied by a deposit of $40.00
to remove 8 trees at 917 E. 18th Street was read. Moved by Cordingly,
seconded by Addis, that the request be granted. Carried.
. The Superintendent of Streets requested that some member
of the Board assist him in checking supplies, also conditions at
the wharf.
.Trustee Bird arrives.
• Communication from the Planning Commission recommending
that the location of a street south of 20th Street as proposed by
Mr. Stein be not allowed, also requesting permission to subscribe
to a City Planning Magazine called the "Community Builder" at $2.50
per year, was read. Moved by Bira, seconded by Cordingly, that the
report be received and filed and that the request for Magazine be
granted. Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.

.Communication from Mrs. Lillie B. Williams stating that
she did not sign petition for paving of Alley in Block 1 of Fieming's
Subdivision was read and ordered filed.
.Petition of Frank Russell for position as Inspector for
street improvement work was read and ordered filed.
•Petition of property owners on 9th and loth Streets to
have same paved with cement concrete instead of asphalt was read.
Moved by Addis, seconded by Fritz, that the City Engineer be in-
structed to prepare plans for the paving of streets and avenues
south of 8th Street and west of Highland Avenue with cement concrete
instead of asphalt. Carried.
,Petition of property owners to pave the alley in Block 1
of Kimball's Subdivision in 10 Acre Lot 2, a Section 154, was read
and ordered filed.
.Mr. Burden of the Paradise Valley Sanitarium was present
regarding sewage disposal. Moved by Bird, seconded by Addis, that
the City Attorney and City Engineer be instructed to prepare plans
and specifications for a trunk line sewer. Carried.
.Petition of property owners to have B Avenue from loth to
12th Streets graded, sidewalked and curbed was read and referred
to the City Engineer.
.Petition of property owners to have C Avenue graded, side -
walked and curbed between loth and 12th Streets was read and re-
ferred to the City Engineer.
.Report of the City Engineer on request of property owners
on 9th and loth Streets to have cement concrete instead of asphalt
on all streets south of 8th Street, stating that same represented
82% of the frontage and recommending granting the same, was read
and ordered filed.
.-Report of the City Engineer on petitions to grade, sidewalk
and curb B and C Avenues between loth and 12th Streets, showing that
same represent 63% and 51.6% respectively, of the frontage and re-
commending granting the petitions was read and ordered filed.
,Moved by Bird, seconded by Fritz, that the City Engineer
be instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the grading,

etc. of B and C Avenues from loth to 12th Streets. Carried.
,Report of the hecorder for the month of January 1928
showing fines collected amounting to $1015.00 was read and ordered
filed.
,The Finance Committee recommended that a street light be
installed at 4th Street and F Avenue. Moved by Cordingly, seconded
by Bird, that a 60 C.P. street light be installed at the inter-
section of 4th Street and F Avenue. Carried, all Trustees present
voting aye.
.The Police Committee recommended that a time be set for
the hearing of complaints against Marshal Wright. The President
set the date of hearing on Feb. 15, 1928 at 7 o'clock P.M. at the
City Hall.
.ORDINANCE NO. 579, Regulating the taking of water from
fire hydrants in the City, was placed on final passage, and on
motion by Fritz, seconded by Bird, same adopted, all Trustees
present voting aye.
.Bonds of Lloyd Murray, A. 0. Reed, Daniel A. Deacon and
Frank M. Chase, Master Plumbers, were presented. Moved by Fritz,
seconded by Addis, that the Bonds be approved, accepted and ordered
filed. Carried.
.ORDINANCE NO. , Regulating restaurants, lunch counters,
cafes, etc. was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Fritz, that it
be introduced and laid over under the rules and according to law.
Carried.
.ORDINANCE NO. , Amending Ordinance No. 540 and Fixing
the Salary of the City Clerk at $175.00 per month and the City
Treasurer at $150.00 per month, was read. Moved by Fritz, seconded
by Bird, that it be introduced and laid over under the rules and
according to law. Carried.
•ORDINANCE NO. , An Ordinance Creating a Planning
Commission was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Addis, that it
be introduced and laid over under the rules and according to law.
Carried.

:RESOLUTION NO. 1230, Ordering the work of grading and
other improvement of certain Streets and Avenues West of National
Avenue and South of Thirteenth Street was read. Moved by 6ordingly,
seconded by Fritz, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all
Trustees present voting aye.
:RESOLUTION NO. 1231, Accepting Deed of San Diego & Arizona
Railway Company for land for street purposes on Olivewood Drive and
L Avenue was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the
Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.
;RESOLUTION NO. 1232, Fixing the salary of Deputy Fire Marshal
at $135.00 per month, also fixing salary of a Fireman at $125.00
per month, was read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that
the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.
:RESOLUTION NO. 1233, Ordering final payment to King S.
Heath for the paving of portion of 1st Avenue under contract dated
June 29, 1927, amounting to $2661.13, was read. Moved by Bird,
seconded by Fritz, that the Resolution be adopted. Carried, all
Trustees present voting aye.
RESOLUTION NO. 1234, Authorizing payment of bonded indebted-
ness due Feb. 15, 1928, amounting to $3500.00, was read. Moved by
Cordingly, seconded by Bird, that the Resolution be adopted.
Carried, all Trustees present voting aye.
-ORDINANCE NO.
, Amending Section 1
of Ordinance No. 558
and fixing the salary of the Superintendent of Streets at $200.00
per month was.read. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Fritz, that it
be introduced and laid over under the rules and according to law.
Carried.
Moved by Bird, seconded by Addis, that the Board adjourn.
Carried.
