Trustees present --Addis, Bird, Cordingly, Fritz and Murray. Minutes of regular adjourned meeting of August 30, 1926, read and approved. Carried, all Trustees pres- ent voting aye. .Petition of the owner of Austin Heights Subdivision regaid- ing the improvement of streets .aas read and referred to the City Attorney. .Communication from the War Department at Los Angeles regard- ing application of J. E. Blackman for permission to dredge the bay to a depth of seventeen feet was read ana ordered filed. .Petition of Joseph Sitko for an increase in .sages was read. 14. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird that the petition be denied. Carried. .Communication from the National City Library Trustees re- garding the expiration of Mrs. Fanny J. Thelen's tern of office and requesting than she be reappointed was read. Loved by Bird, seconded by Fritz that Mrs. Fanny J. Thelen be appointed a mem- ber of the National City Library Trustees. Carried. .Communication from the Library Trustees enclosing budget for the year 1926-1927 aas red and ordered filed. .Petition of rien S. Boggs for a license to operate one card table at 726 National Avenue was read. gloved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the petition be granted. Carried. .Report of the Recorder for the month of August, 1926, show- ing fines collected amounting to 61607.00 was real and ordered filed. .Communication from City Planning Commission recommending that a bond election be called for the purpose of voting 6180,000 bonds for paving certain streets and avenues was read. gloved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the plan submitted by the Plan- ning Commission for paving certain streets and avenues be accept- ed. Carried. .The Police Committee reported they had no recommendation to make regarding an increase in the salary of J. A. Burns. ISoved by Cordingly, seconded by Addis.that the petition of J. A. Burns for an increase in salary be denied. Carried. ,The Fire Department ivus given further time regarding hydrants on east Eighth Street. .City Engineer given further time regarding Third Street paving, Lanoitan Avenue grading, opening Fourth Str-et and the railroad crossing at Twenty-fourth Street. •City Attorney given further time regarding tide land lease of J. S. Blackman, also ordinance regarding restrictions for subdivisions. .Finance Committee given further time regarding audit of books. 15. ARDINANCE NO. 563, An Ordinance fixing the rate and levying the taxed for the fiscal year 1926-1927 at $1.72 per one hundred dollars valuation was placed on final passage and on motion by Addis, seconded by Bird sane adopted, all Trustees present voting aye. .Bond of J. F. Diaz, master plumber, was presented. Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Bird that the bony' be approved, accept- ed and ordered filed. Carried. .Report of the City Engineer in the matter of National City Lighting District No. 1 was read. .RESOLUTION N0. 1069, Appointing time and place for hearing protests and directing clerk to give notice of said hearing in the matter of National City Lighting District No. 1 was read. Moved by Bird, seconded by Cordingly that the Resolution be a- dopted. Carried, all Trustees present voting aye. ,Moved by Bird, seconded by Addis that the City Attorney and City Engineer be instructed to prepare the necessary papers call- ing a bond election for $180,000 for paving certain streets and avenues. Carried. .Moved by Addis, seconded by Fritz that the Mexican Society be granted permission to use Sixteenth Street bet.teen Seventh and Eighth Avenues September 16, 1923, for their celebration.
