National City, Calif., Feb. 17, 1920.
Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees called to
order by the President. Trustees present,— Cordingly,
Snook and Hertel. Crandall late. Weisser absent.
Minutes of adjourned meeting of Feb. 10, 1920, read
and approved.
The following bills presented:

Moved by Snook, seconded by Cordingly that bills be
allowed and warrants ordered drawn for same. Carried, all
Trustees present voting aye.
Petitions of Mrs. F. A. Boggs, Mrs. Frances M. Maniz
and M. D.^.lark, to remo•re trees, were read. Moved by Cordingly,
seconded,by Snook that petitions be granted. Carried.
Communication from the National City Fireman's Club
regarding amunition, was read and ordered filed.
Petitions of W. L. Russell and Geo. F. Miner for an
increase of salary were read. Crandall arrived. Moved
by Cordingly, seconded by Snook th.-t a committee of three
be appointed to look into the finances and make recommen—
dation on applications. Carried. The Committee appointed
as follows: Trustees, —Crandall, ^.ordingly and Snook.
Moved by Crandall, seconded by Cordingly, that the
Board reconsider the motion of Feb. 10, 1920, of ordering
in sidewalks. Carried.
Ordinance No. 496, fixing the salary of the City Engineer
and repealing Ordinance No. 489, placed on final passage, and
on motion by lordingly, seconded by Crandall, same adopted
all Trustees present voting aye.
Moved by Crandall, seconded by Snook that the follnwing
resolution be adopted. Carried.

"Whereas, Guy L. Hooker, who for many years was
the efficient and faithful Superintendent of Streets
of this City, has passed to the Great Beyond; and
Whereas, by the death of Mr. Hooker, this
community has lost a kindly and friendly man who
will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbors, -
NOW THEREFORE., be it resolved by this Board that
the members thereof feel a personal lose in the
death of the said Guy L. Hooker and hereby extend
their sympathy to the family of said deceased; and
BF IT FIRMER RESOLVED that this resolution be
extended upon the minutes of this Board and that
a copy thereof be sent by the City Clerk to
Mrs. Hooker."
Resolution No. 581, Approving the Recommendation
for the Establishment of a Federal Ship and Rail Terminal
at Bayonne, New Jersey, etc., was read. Moved by Snook,
seconded by Crandall that Resolution be adopted. Carried,
all Trustees present voting aye.
'Moved by Crandall, seconded by Snook that the Chairman
of the Board be a committee of one to see if a suitable
in
celebration may be arranged/National City in honor of our
returned soldiers. Carried.
Moved by Cordingly, seconded by Crandall that in the
matter of the application of the Sweetwater Water Co. of the
State of Maine before the Railroad Commission of the State
of California for permission to sell and convey to the
Sweetwater Water Co. of California, its assets and to issue
its stock in the sum of $1,000,000.00 and to issue $450,000.00
in bonds, the City Attorney be instructed to write to the
Railroad Commission that the City of National City objects
to the issuing of stock and bonds against the assets of said
Sweetwater Water Co. in the sum of $1,450,000.00 if the same
shall in any way fie the value of the Sweetwater Water System
for the fixing of water rates or in the future be considered
in connection with the fixing of water rates. Carried.
Moved by Crandall,seconded by Cordingly that Board
adjourn. Carried.
