ROLL CALL Council / Board members present: Cano, Mendivil, Morrison, Rios, Sotelo-Solis. Administrative Officials present: Dalla, Deese, Morris -Jones, Raulston. CITY COUNCIL OPEN SESSION PUBLIC COMMENTS — None. Members retired into Closed Session at 5:03 p.m. CLOSED SESSION 1. Conference with Legal Counsel — Pending Litigation Existing Litigation under Paragraph (1) of Subdivision (d) of Government Code Section 54956.9 City of National City v. Irvin Martinez, et al. SDSC Case No. 37-2018-00021725-CL-MC-CTL CLOSED SESSION REPORT City Attorney Angil Morris -Jones reported that at the next Regular City Council Meeting of July 17, 2018, the City Clerk will present a certificate certifying the results of the San Diego County Registrar of Voter's examination of the number of signatures collected in favor of the Residential Rent Control Measure. The Registrar of Voters determined that the initiative received a sufficient number of signatures to qualify as a ballot measure for National City's November 2018 general election. The City's declaratory relief action was filed because the City Attorney believes the proposed Residential Rent Control Measure contains certain provisions that violate state law. However, the City believes in and encourages the democratic process to have the people's voice heard. Therefore, the City will dismiss its declaratory relief action to allow a vote on the Residential Rent Control Measure on November 6, 2018.
