HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC ORD 1983-1805 AMENDING TITLE (18) ZONING TO ESTABLISH STANDARDS FOR MOTEL DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNED DEVELOPMENT COMBINING ZONEORDINANCE NO. 1805 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 18 (ZONING) OF THE NATIONAL CITY MUNICIPAL CODE TO ESTABLISH STANDARDS FOR MOTEL DEVELOPMENT AND ADDING A NEW CHAPTER 18.43 TO ESTABLISH A MOTEL - PLANNED DEVELOPMENT COMBINING ZONE (MPD) (A-6-83) BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of National City, California, that there is hereby added to the Municipal Code of National City, Section 18.16.192, which is to read as follows: 18.16.192 Motels. Any proposal for the construction or expansion of a motel in any zone shall comply with the fol- lowing standards: a. All motels shall have a manager's apartment. b. Kitchen or kitchenette facilities are prohibited in all but the resident manager's unit. c. All motels shall be located on lots that are at least 20,000 square feet in size and the minimum number of units provided shall be 20. d. Motel rooms shall be at least 300 square feet in size including the bathroom. e. A swimming pool at least 525 square feet in size shall be provided on all sites. f. On -site parking of a ratio of one space for each room shall be provided per Section 18.58.240. In addition, there will be one extra parking space for every 10 units up to 50. Over 50 units, one extra parking space shall be provided for every 20 units. g. Landscaped areas shall be provided per Section 18.16.390. h. Motels shall be permitted only on property bear- ing the symbol "MPD" on the zoning map per Chapter 18.43. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that there is hereby added to the Municipal Code of National City, a new chapter which is to read as follows: CHAPTER 18.43 MOTEL - PLANNED DEVELOPMENT COMBINING ZONE (MPD) 18.43.010 18.43.020 18.43.030 Intent and purpose Regulations generally Development standards 18.43.010 Intent and purpose. The intent and purpose of the Motel - Planned Development Combining Zone is to identify and zone properties which are suitable for motel development in order that: a. The existing community can be protected from incompatible land uses. b. Motel development occurs in areas served by freeway access ramps and support facilities such as restaurants. c. Motel developments that are built are of high quality and do not contribute to urban blight. d. Adequate architectural controls can be applied. 18.43.020 Regulations generally. Motels shall be permitted only on property bearing the symbol MPD on the Zoning Map. Any proposal for the construction or enlargement of a motel shall require issuance of a Conditional Use Permit in accordance with Chapter 18.116. 18.43.030 Development standards. Motels shall be developed in accordance with the standards in Section 18.16.192. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 45- day of 1983.
