HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC ORD 1976-1548 Insurance for city-owned vehicles (Not codified)ORDINANCE NO. 1548 ORDINANCE REQUIRING THAT ALL CITY -OWNED VEHICLES CARRY A MINIMUM OF $500,000 COMBINED SINGLE LIMITS OF BODILY INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY INSURANCE WHEREAS, it is the intent of the City of National City to place its automobile liability insurance with the best market available for public entities, and WHEREAS, the market for placing automobile liability insurance has become very restricted as to interested insurance carriers and premium costs, and WHEREAS, the City's automobile liability insurance policy renewal will become due at the beginning of the next calendar year, and WHEREAS, the City's insurance broker of record has indicated that most of the excess liability insurance carriers require at least a $500,000 limit of liability coverage for the underlying insurance level and recommends that the City immediately pass an ordinance requiring said amount of coverage for all City -owned vehicles in order to assure itself of the broadest possible market position and every possible combina- tion of coverage; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that the City Council of the City of National City requires that all City -owned vehicles carry a minimum of $500,000 combined single limits of bodily injury and property damage liability insurance. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the City Council find that this Ordinance be adopted as an urgency Ordinance for the reasons set forth above. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 2lst day of December, 1976.
