ORDINANCE NO. 833
AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO HOL-
IDAYS IN TIIE CITY OF NATION -
AI. CITY, CALIFORNIA.
The City Council of the City of Na-
tional City. California, DOES ORDAIN
as follows:
Section I. That the first day of Janu-
ary, the twelfth day of February, the
twenty-second day of February, the
thirtieth day of May, the fourth day
of July, the first Monday in Septem-
ber the ninth day of September,
the twelfth day in October, the elev-
enth day of November, the twenty-
fifth day of December, and every day
on which an election is held through-
out the State, and every Saturday
and every Sunday in every year, and
every day appointed by the President
of the United States for a nubile fast
of thanksgiving, are hereby declared
to he holidays; and provided further
that if the first day of January, the
twelfth day of February, the twenty-
second day of February, the thirtieth
clay of May, the fourth day of July.
the ninth day of September. the
twelfth day of October. the eleventh
day of November, or the twenty-fifth
day of December, falls upon a Sun-
day, the Monday following is a holi-
day. Upon each of aforesaid days, all
municipal offices of the City shall be
closed and all municipal work of ev-
ery kind suspended. except in cases
of emergency: provided, that the pro-
visions of this section shall not apply
to the Police or Fire Department;
and provided further that no Satur-
day shall be considered a legal holi-
day under the provisions of Ordi-
nance No. 827 of the City of National
City unless said Saturday shall fall
on one of the days hereinabove spe-
cifically mentioned by day of the
month.
Section 2. This Ordinance is hereby
declared an urgency matter necessary
for the immediate preservation of
the public peace. health and safety
and one of urgency. to take effect
immediately from and after its pass-
age and adoption. The facts consti-
tuting the urgency are hereby de-
clared to be as follows: The City
Council has determined maximum
working hours for many employees
of the City and it is necessary that
this Ordinance become effective
without delay In order that holidays
be clearly defined so that the busi-
ness affairs of the City can be con-
ducted during regularly established
working days and that the hours of
employment of the employees be
within the limits of the monies avail-
able for the payment of salaries and
wages to said employees.
Section ;i. That before the expira-
tion of fifteen days after its passage,
the City Clerk of said City shall
cause this Ordinance to be published
once in the National City News. a
newspaper of weekly circulation.
printed and published in the City of
National City. California.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City
Council of the City of National City,
California, this 1st day of July, 1952, by
the following vote, to -wit:
AYES: Counctlrnen Hart, Ingalls. Mc-
Clure. Carrigan.
NAYS: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: None.
