HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC ORD 1949-768 Amends §§ 59 and 60 of Ord. 706, plumbing (Repealed by 1366)B /3" 768 ORDINANCE NO. 768 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING OR- DINANCE NO. 706 OF THE ORDI- NANCES OF THE CITY OF NA- TIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 59 AND 60 OF SAID ORDINANCE. The City Council of the City of Na- tional City, California, DOES OR- DAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 59 of Ordi- nance No. 706 of the ordinances of the City of National City, is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 59: No stone, brick or cement sewer pipe, or any earth- enware pipe shall be permitted to be installed inside of any proper- ty line, or on any premises, or under any building, except as pro- vided in Section 60, and except for acid sinks or tanks as pro- vided for in this ordinance and in Section 163 and 164. In case of a stone, brick, cement or earthen- ware sewer having been installed within the property line prior to the adoption of this ordinance, if the same is in good working or- der, it shall remain and continue to be used as a soil drain, and connections may be made there- with. Connections to aforemen- tioned pipe must be made outside of building foundation line. SECTION 2. Section 60 of Ordi- nance No. 706 of the ordinances of the City of National City, is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 60; THE HOUSE SEW- ER, beginning three (3) feet out- side the building line, shall be of cast iron pipe conforming to the specifications of the Soil Pipe Association or Asbestos Cement Pipe, couplings and fittings con- forming to the following specifi- cations: (1) All pipe, couplings and fittings shall be built by the pressure method and steam cured; (2) The average of five (5) samp- les shall show a flexual and crushing strength as follows: 4" flexure 550# applied at 1/3 points of 9'0" span 6" flexure 1290# applied at 1/3 points of 9'0" span 4" crushing American Society of Testing Materials, 3-Edge bearing method — 1740# 6" crushing American Society of Testing Materials, 3-Edge bearing method — 1420# (3) The connections shall be made with sleeve couplings sealed with rubber rings and of the same com- position as the pipe. All joints between asbestos cement pipe and metal pipe shall be made by means of an adapter coupling caulked as required to pass test set forth in Section 156 of this or- dinance. (4) The maximum alkalinity of the asbestos cement pipe, coup- lings and fittings shall be calcu- lated as 60 milligrams of potassium hydroxide per gram sample when tested by the Western Electric method. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force on the 31st day from and after its final passage. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall cause this ordinance to be published once hi the National City News, a weekly newspaper of general circula- tion printed and published in the Ci'y of National City, California. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of National City, California, this 1st day of No- vember, 1949, by the following vote, to -wit: AYES: Councilmen Adams, Curry, Mstthews, Thatcher, Fritz.
