ORDINANCE NO. 674
AN ORDINANCE REGULATING
THE USE OF FIREWORKS AND
OTHER PYROTECHNIC DISPLAY
AND TO LIMIT THEIR SALE
AND STORAGE.
The City Council of the City
of National City, does ordain:
Section 1. It shall be unlawful
to discharge, fire, use, possess or
store any or all types and man-
ner of fireworks ircluding fire-
crackers, bombs, niggerchasers,
rockets, torpedoes, Roman Candles,
or any other type or manner of
fireworks or substances designed
or intended for pyrotechnic dis-
plays, in the City of National
City.
Section 2. It shall be unlawful
to fire any pistol, cane, cannon
or appliances using blank car-
tridges or caps containing chlor-
ate of potash mixture used for
amusement or celebration pur-
poses in the City of National City.
Section 3. The sale or exhibi-
tion for wholesale or retail with-
in the City of National City is
unlawful and is hereby prohibited
and the sale, use or possession
of gun powder or explosives also
combination of chlorate of potash,
and sulphur, or similar compounds,
is hereby prohibited for celebra-
tion or amusement purposes.
Section 4. The City council of
the City of National City upon
application of any person, may
issue a permit for the public dis-
play of fireworks under the di-
rect supervision of a person ex-
amined and approved by the Fire
Marshall of the City of National
City, providing however, that
said applicant for said permit
shall first secure the approval of
the City Fire Marshall of said
City. All such display or displays
of fireworks shall be of such
character and so located, dis-
charged or fired, as, in the opin-
ion of the City Council of said
City shall not be hazardous to
surrounding property or endanger
any person or persons.
Section 5. Any person, firm or
corporation violating any of the
provisions of this ordinance shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemean-
or and shall be subject to a fine
not exceeding One Hundred Dol-
lars ($100.00), or shall be im-
prisoned for a period not ex-
ceeding Fifty Days (50) in the
City Jail, or by both fine and im-
prisonment.
Section 6. That the City Clerk
of said City of National City,
California, be, and he is hereby
authorized and directed imme-
diately after the passage of this
Ordinance, to publish, or cause the
same to be published, once in the
National City News, a newspaper
of general circulation printed and
published in said city.
Section 7. This Ordinance shall
take effect and be in full force on
the thirty-first day from and after
its final passage and approval.

the City Council of the City of
National City, California, this
13th day of May, 1940, by the
following vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Cordingly,
Kilcrease, Thatcher, Warner, Bird.
NAYS: Councilmen none
ABSENT: none.
