ORDINANCE NO. 676
An Ordinance Adopting Distinctive
Markings For State Highways
& City Streets Indicating no
Driving to the Left Thereof, in
the City of National City,
California.
The City Council of the City
of National City, California does
ordain:
Section 1—That there is hereby
created a distinctive roadway
marking for the marking of City
Streets and State Highways in
the City of National City, Cali-
fornia, said markings shall con-
sist of two white stripes or of
one white stripe and one yellow
stripe painted on the roadway
running parallel to the curb of
said street, each stripe approxi-
mately Three Inches (3) wide and
the two stripes separated by an
approximate Three Inch (3) black
stripe, except that where one
yellow stripe is used, driving over
the double line by traffic proceed-
ing on the same side of the high-
way as the yellow stripe shall not
be prohibited by reason of said
distinctive marking.
Section 2—It shall be unlawful
for the driver of any vehicle
todrive or guide his vehicle to the
left of the aforesaid distinctive
markings.
Section 3—The approximate
Three Inch (3) stripe above re-
ferred to may be obtained either
by painting or the effect of bitum-
inous pavements and no sign shall
be required in connection with said
distinctive markings.
Section 4—A11 highway traffic
shall be prohibited from driving
to the Left of the yellow stripes
when said yellow stripes border
the edge of the traffic line in
which the traffic is traveling.
Section 5—Each person violat-
ing any of the provisions of this
Ordinance is guilty of a misde-
meanor and upon conviction there-
of shall be subject to a fine not
exceeding Fifty Dollars ($50.00)
or by imprisonment in the City
Jail not exceeding Twenty-five
days (25) or by both such fine
and imprisonment.
Section 6—The City Clerk is
hereby directed to publish this
Ordinance once in the National
City News, a newspaper of gen-
eral circulation, in the City of
National City, California.
Section 7—This Ordinance shall
be in full force and effect, Thirty-
one (31) days after its final
passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by
the City Council of the City of
National City, California, this
21st day of May, 1940, by the fol-
lowing vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Cordingly,
Kilcrease, Thatcher and Warner.
NAYS: Councilmen None.
ABSENT: Bird.
