HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC ORD 1937-655 Adds § 51(d) to Ord. 538, tax assessment and collection (Repealed by 1366)655 ORDINANCE NO. 655 An ordinance amending ordinance No. 538, City of National City, California relating to the assessment, levying and col- lecting of taxes. The City Council of the City of National City, California, DO 011- DAIN as follows: SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 538 of said City relating to the assessment, levy and collection of taxes as amended by and the same is hereby further amended by adding thereto a new section to be known and designated as Sec- tion 51-1), as follows, to -wit: "Section 51-D. That in all eases where real estate has been sold to the City of National City for delinquent taxes and the said City has not disposed of the same, the person whose estate has heen sold, his heirs, execu- tors, administrators or other successors in interest shall at any time between August 15, 1937 and October 15, 1937 have a right to redeem such property by paying to the City Treasurer the amount of taxes due thereon at the time of such sale, together with all delinquent taxes of ev- ery kind prior to such sale that are a lien upon said real estate and all tuxes for each year since such sale as shown by the as- sessment rolls of said City to be delinquent. The provisions of this section shall he deemed to allow the re- demption of such real estate free from the payment of all costs, penalties for delinquency and in- terest upon redemption which may have accrued against said real estate prior to July 1, 1937 hut shall have no application to the amount, rate of penalties for delinquency or the redemption of any taxes for the fiscal year 1937-38. Except as otherwise provided herein, such redemption shall be made in the manner prescribed in section 5l of said Ordinance No. 538, and if redemption is made between August 15, 1937 and October 15, 1937, inclusive, the costs for making the estimate provided in said Section 51, shall also he waived." SECTION 2. To promote the sale of real property situated in the City of National City and be- cause of the fact that there is now existing what is termed an eco- nomic depression and for the wel- fare and hest interest of the citi- zens of the City of National City and to those owning real property situated in said City, the City Council of the City of National City, California does declare that there is an emergency existing and that this said Ordinance shall take effect and he in force on the date of its final passage. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to he published once in the Nation- al City News within fifteen (15) days after its final passage. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of National City, California, this 6th day of July, 1937, by the follow- ing vote, to -wit: AYES: Councilmen Thatcher, Warner, Bird.
