HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 15,905RESOLUTION NO. 15,905 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY SUPPORTING THE CALIFORNIA WATER COMMISSION'S RECOMMENDATION TO SUPPORT THE ALLOCATION OF $5.3 MILLION TO THE FEDERAL FY 1990 BUDGET FOR THE SWEETWATER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 15,895 The City Council of the City of National City does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the Sweetwater River Flood Control Project is part of a combined highway and flood control program to relieve flooding in the lower Sweetwater River Valley, to widen Interstate Route 5, and to construct State Route 54 between Interstate Routes 5 and 805, and WHEREAS, the plan for the channel improvement project was originally approved August 13, 1968 by Act of Congress, Public Law 483, 90th Congress, 2d Session, and WHEREAS, the project will protect heavily urbanized areas from flooding and result in the acquisition and conservation of 188 acres of marshland, and WHEREAS, it is estimated that there is a need for $5.3 million dollars in 1990, and $1.8 million in 1991 to complete the flood control portion of the project, and WHEREAS, the California State Water Commission, at its March 3, 1989 meeting, unanimously took action to recommend to the Federal Government that funding in the amount of $5.3 million in included in the federal budget for FY 89/90 for the Sweetwater Flood Control Project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of f^^^ the City of National City does hereby support the California Water Commission's recommendation for continued funding for the Sweetwater Flood Control Project in FY 1990. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 15,895 is hereby rescinded. PASSED and ADOPTED this 14th day of March, 1989.
