HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RESO 15,545RESOLUTION NO. 15,545 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY ADOPTING SUPPORT FOR SAN DIEGO COUNTY TO BE SELECTED AS THE SITE FOR THE COLUMBUS QUINCENTENARY JUBILEE WHEREAS, 1992 marks the 500th anniversary of the historic voyage of Christopher Columbus which led to the European discovery of America in 1492; and WHEREAS, the Christopher Columbus Quincentenary Jubilee Commission is a Presidential Commission established by Congress in 1984 to plan, encourage, coordinate and conduct the nation's Quincentenary observance; and WHEREAS, said Jubilee Commission is evaluating potential West Coast sites to host a Grand Columbus Regatta, consisting of a flotilla of up to Two Hundred (200) traditional sailing vessels, including the celebrated Tall Ships; and WHEREAS, such an event will provide the host city with national recognition and exposure which will benefit the entire community NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby expresses its support for efforts to have San Diego selected as the site for the 1992 Grand Columbus Regatta. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council encourages the San Diego Unified Port District to cooperate fully to insure that appropriate facilities from the Port District's inventory are made available to accommodate the Grand Columbus Regatta on San Diego Bay.
