RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ThJ. CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF SCHOOL CROSSING WARNING
SIGNS (W66 AND W66A) AND "SPEED LIMIT 35 MPH" SIGN (R2)
ON 18TH STREET BETWEEN ORANGE STKEbT AND RACHAEL AVENUE
(TSC ITEM NO. 87-58)
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of National City,
California, that the public health, safety and welfare will be best
protected by authorizing the installation of school crossing warning signs
(W66 and W66A) and "Speed Limit 35 MPH" sign (R2) on 18th Street between
Orange Avenue and Rachael Avenue in National City, California.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 13th day of October, 1987.

The Traffic Safety Committee attheir meeting of August 12, 1987 and September
10, 1987 approved the following Engineering recommendations.
1. Installation of the followin items for eastbound traffic on 8th Street.
a. New "SLOW SCHOOL XING" pavement markings, between Orange Street
and Lanoitan .Avenue.
b. New "SCHOOL XING" sign (W66A) to replace the existing "SCHOOL"
plate. (W65) at the composite sign installation between Lanoitan Avenue
and Granger Avenue.
c. New 35 MPH speed limit sign between Granger Avenue and Rachael
Avenue.
2. Installation of the followin items for westbound traffic on 18th Street.
a. New "SCHOOL XING" sign (W66A) to replace the existing "SCHOOL"
plate (W65) at the composite sign installation between Rachael Avenue
and Granger Avenue.
b. New "SLOW SCHOOL XING" pavement markings between
Avenue and Lanoitan Avenue.

3. Removal of the followin item for the westbound traffic on 18th Street:
- The composite school signing (W63 and W65) between Granger Avenue
and Lanoitan Avenue.
This item was requested by Gregory Marquez, 2612 E. 18th Street, to improve
crossing pedestrian safety and tosolve speeding problem on 18th Street between
Orange Street and Rachael. Avenue. The above Engineering recommendations were
approved to enhance the existence of the school crosswalks in conformance with
the State Traffic Manual.
Per Traffic Safety Committee request, Engineering investigated the intersection. of
18th Street and Lanoitan Avenue and found it did not warrant a 4-way stop
control.
