RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A SALARY RANGE FOR
THE NEW CLASSIFICATION OF SENIOR CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR
WHEREAS, the Civil Service Commission of the City of National City
has authorized the amendment of the classification plan of the City by the
establishment of the new classification of Senior Construction Inspector.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the salary range for this
classification shall be Salary Range No. 133.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 14th day of Januarys.

CLASS SPECIFICATION
SR. CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR
DEFINITION
Under direction, to perform responsible Contract Administration and construction
inspection work of a complex nature involving public works construction; and to do
related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL DUTIES*
Inspects and/or supervises the inspection of the construction of public works facilities;
inspects building plot plans for compliance with the City Code; schedules and
conducts pre -construction conferences; reviews and developes justifications for
progress payment and change order requests; schedules material testing, ensures
contractor compliance with safety and various other governmental requirements;
provides information to contractors, developers and the general public; as required
may initiate actions to stop work or hold-up payments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience - Any combination of education and experience which
demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this classification. An example
would be equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by courses in
algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and five years of responsible sub -professional
engineering work. College level training with major work in civil engineering or a
closely related field may be substituted on a year-to-year basis to a maximum of
three years of the required experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of principles and practices of civil
engineering; knowledge of construction techniques and materials; ability to inspect
municipal public works projects; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with public and fellow employees; ability to work independently; ability
to analyze and interpret plans, specifications, survey notes and various statistical data
and graphs; ability to prepare quantity and cost estimates; ability to carry out
written and oral instructions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must possess a valid California Driver's License at time of appointment.

CLASS SPECIFICATION
CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II•- FIELD SERVICE
DEFINITION
Under direction, to perform para-professional engineering work of a -complex nature
involving public works inspection duties; and to do related work as required.
AMPT.FS OF TYPICAL DUTIES *
Inspects and/or supervises the inspection of the construction of public works
facilities; inspects building plot plans for compliance with the City Code; makes
mathematical calculations such as closures, grades and curves; performs material
testing, prepares and checks the preparation of legal descriptions and grant deeds
for easements and street rights -of -way; ensures constractor compliance with various
government requirements; provides information to contractors, developers and the
general public; and performs related duties as required.

strates the ability to perform the duties of this classification.• An example would
be equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by courses in algebra,
geometry and trigonometry, and five years of increasingly responsible sub -profession-

or a closely related field may be substituted on a year-to-year basis to a maximum
of two years.
