RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO SB 1398
REQUIRING COMPULSORY AND BINDING ARBITRATION FOR
POLICE AND FIREFIGHTER LABOR NEGOTIATIONS
WHEREAS, SB 1398, if approved, would require compulsory and
binding arbitration for police and firefighter labor negotiations, and could
legalize public employee strikes in California, and
WHEREAS, compulsory and binding arbitration would seriously impair
the collective bargaining process, and would permit an outside, non -elected, and
unaccountable third party to resolve labor negotiations in a manner which could
place undue financial hardship on the taxpayers of the City, and
WHEREAS, the City of National City has consistently opposed
measures proposed in the past to institute compulsory and binding arbitration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of National City that the City is opposed to compulsory and binding
arbitration for labor negotiations and is opposed to the proposed SB 1398.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 14th day of May, 1985.
