A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY
SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO ASSIST CITIES
WITH RESPECT TO THE FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT
WHEREAS, in a recent decision of the United States Supreme Court,
it was held for the first time that the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards
Act are applicable to governmental employers; and
WHEREAS, it has been estimated that enforcement of the Fair Labor
Standards Act against governmental employers will cost California cities and
counties $300 million or more; and
WHEREAS, several legislature measures have been proposed to assist
governmental employers with respect to the Fair Labor Standards Act.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that the
City of National City supports legislation to assist cities in complying with, or
to relieve cities of the burden of complying with, the Fair Labor Standards Act.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that staff is hereby directed to transmit
this Resolution, together with letters setting forth the City's position, to the
appropriate Federal officials and elected representatives.
