A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NATIONAL CITY SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 32
WHEREAS, the Supreme Court of the State of California, in a decision
entitled County Sanitation District No. 2 vs. Los Angeles County Employee
Association, upheld the right of public employees to strike in certain situations;
and
WHEREAS, prior to that decision, the prevailing case law indicated
that public employee strikes were illegal; and
WHEREAS, strikes by public employees could be detrimental to the
meet and confer process, since they provide public employee associations an
option other than to meet and bargain in good faith; and
WHEREAS, strikes by public employees could jeopardize vital services
to the community; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Constitutional Amendment 32 has been introduced
to allow California voters to decide whether public employee strikes are to be
illegal.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of National City, California, that the City of National City supports Assembly
Constitutional Amendment 32.
