FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY
OF NATIONAL CITY AND HARTSON AMBULANCE SERVICE
FOR BASIC AND ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT SERVICES.
This amends the agreement of October 1, 1983, (adopted by
Resolution No. 14,148) between National City and Hartson's
Ambulance Service for Basic and Advanced Life Support services.
The express purpose of this amendment is to further insure
that the citizens of National City receive the highest level
of emergency and nonemergency medical transportation services
for the lowest cost to the individual consumer, and without a
direct subsidy from the City of National City to the provider
of said services.
Therefore, the parties agree as follows:
1. SERVICES
Hartson shall station one Basic Life Support unit
at the City Fire station located at 2130 Tidelands
Avenue for the purpose of optimizing response times
for medical emergencies ocurring in the western
portion of the City. Said station may be also uti-
lized by Hartson for the following activities and no
other activities shall be conducted without prior
approval from the Fire Chief:
a) Housing, on a twenty-four hour basis, for ambu-
lance crews and supervisory staff.
b) Parking of ambulance units and support vehicles
c) Storage of medical supplies and equipment normally
used to restock ambulance units
' d) Restocking of ambulance units
e) Educational activities including training of
Hartson personnel, public safety personnel,
and citizens.
2. FACILITY
Hartson has examined and knows the condition of said
premises, has received the same in good order and
repair, will keep said premises in its present condi-
tion, except for normal wear and tear, and upon
termination of this agreement, will yield up said
premises in the same condition and repair, less normal
wear and tear. Hartson will maintain premises to the
specifications established by City's Fire Chief. The
Fire Chief reserves the right to inspect said premises
as often as he may deem necessary.
2
Any and all plans by Hartson to remodel or structurally
modify the facility in any way will require the advance
approval of the City's Fire Chief.
3. COMPENSATION
This amendment shall not create additonal costs for
National City. To that end, Hartson agrees to
reimburse City for utilities supplied to the premises
during its occupancy and for all expenses attributable
to occupancy by Hartson for routine maintenance and
routine repair of non-structural portions of the
premises. In the event repairs of structural portions
of the building (roof, walls, foundation, electrical
wiring, plumbing, outside pavement, etc.) are required
which would cost greater than $2,000 and City is
unwilling to pay for such repairs, Hartson shall have
the option of making repairs at its own expense or
vacating the premises.
The City will invoice Hartson monthly for said utility
and routing repair expenses with said invoice to be
accompanied by substantiating documentation. Hartscr
shall make payment directly to the City of National
City City Treasurer within ten (10) days after receipt
of invoice from the City's Finance Department.
3
4. TERM
The effective date of this amendment shall be
April 1, 1984. The termination date shall be identi-
cal with the terms specified in Section 17 of the
October 1, 1982 agreement except that Hartson may,
at its option, terminate this agreement and vacate
said premises at any time upon thirty (30) days
advance written notice to City.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties hereto have caused this
agreement to be executed the day and year first herein above
set forth.
